Pilot light will not stay on

Try to clean the thermopile, it should be free of dirt/ soot so heat from pilot flame could be sensed better. Thermopiles generate small amount of voltage when heated properly, the voltage it creates is used in energizing gas valve solenoid coils.
Check also if the hi limit is good, small amount of voltage thermopile generates pass through hi limit terminals.

Furnace keeps tripping off on limit switch. replaced limit switch still trips, blower motor seems to work fine.

It's always possible that the limit "dial" switch is sticking leading you to believe that it's only at 150º.

How old is the furnace and when was it last cleaned.

Jan 12, 2010 - My air handler fan (american Standard #TWE065E13FBO) works during a/c operation but not during heating operation. Checked continunity through the the thermo sw and throught the heating coils...

Hi,
You need to check if the air handler fan running.Suppose if you donot see it then, check to see if the fan on the outside unit is running. If the fan on the outside unit is not running either, check to make sure that the breakers for the furnace/air handler and the air conditioner are on. Also if the breaker is not tripped, then the problem may be your thermostat, the furnace/air handler control board, or the wires between the furnace/air handler and the thermostat.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Dryer is not heating. I replaced the heating element but it's still not heating

The heating element is controled by Thermal disks. Basically these are preset thermastats that tell the heating element when to turn on and off. they can be checked with contuinity tester. Replacment is simple normally 2 screws hold them in place. They will have 2 wires running to them. This page gives a discription and photo of them.

Mdg5500aww no heat / flame.

Yes, that open switch is the high limit thermostat. this will shutdown the unit and prevent it from heating. you must replace the open switch(thermostat) asap and, replace the thermal fuse as well.

Why does the fan go on but the furnace/air conditioner does not?

What are you calling it to do at the time? If you are asking for cooling, go outside and check that the outside unit is receiving the call to come on. (is the contactor being pulled in) If not, check for loose wiring to the unit and check voltage from the t stat. If you are calling for heat, then a limit switch has tripped and needs to be reset. Limits are small disks the size of dimes with 2 wires and a small button in the middle. Depress the button firmly to reset it. Hopefully this helps.

Want heat up, but comes on.

Sounds as though the limit switch is tripped. Find a small disk about the size of a penny or dime with two wires going to it. There should be a small button in the middle of the wires. Press it firmly and then try again. You can usually find the limit switch on the burner Assembly.

Heat does not work when thermostat calls for heat...

This is a safty limit switch. Find two wires that are going to the inducer or combustion blower that terminates to a small disk about the size of a penny. In the middle of those two wires should be a small button. Push firmly down thus reseting the switch. This should do it. It could also be the pressure switch but I have never heard it called that before. If the first doesn't fix the issue. Remove the small tube that runs from the inducer to a black or silver disk, blow out and draw in air until you hear clicking noises. Sometimes they can become stuck. If that doesn't work, remove the other end of the tube from the pressure switch and blow through it. Sometimes debris can clog the entrance to the pressure switch as well. Hopefully this will solve your problem. You can have a bad limit or a bad pressure switch. In this case you will probably have to call someone out.

My (Rheem)electrical heater is not heating the

Check all your manual reset limits. There are two wires that go to a small disk about the size of a penny. In between those wires is a small button. Press the button firmly. You will have between 2 to 5 of these. There is also a limit switch located on the back wall of the unit that enters in the heat exchanger but it is not resetable that could be bad. You will need to check all of these. They can be jumped temporarily by removing the wires and adding a small wire.

No heat

OK there is morer limit switches inside and in rear of duct. On that you may need to have a good look at is called the high limit. It prevents the dryer from reaching extreme temperatures but it also can become weaker over time and remain open not allowinh electrical power to the elements. Here is a small photo
