Question about Refrigerators

4 Answers

I have a GE side by side fridge (psc23mgpcww). My ice maker wont make ice. Temp is OK. Water is coming out of dispenser and I even used a blow dryer to defrost any ice that maybe in spout that leads into the mold. I also added 4oz of water into mold and shut switch to ice maker off for 15sec and turned back on and then pressed paddle 3 times and saw rake rotate but next morning still no other ice cubes formed. Could it be my water inlet valve vs water shut off valve or maybe even the spring on my paddle that seems very flimsy and has no recoil.thanks in advance. Yaron Shalomoff

yes I agree! but I am getting good flow from my water dispensor so wouldn't that tell me i am getting good pressure.

  • yava4 Aug 24, 2010

yes I agree but my water flow of my dispenser is good.

  • yava4 Aug 25, 2010

I just did a flow test as per GE and my water dispenser puts out 16oz in 20 secs and a malfunction would be less than 13.5 ounces so could it be still the water inlet valve ...I kinked the water line and released it but no water filled up the mold but it feels like there is cubes there already. Is it possible that the paddle on the bottomwhich has a spring has lost its recoil and that could be the problem.

  • yava4 Aug 26, 2010

yes. but what about the spring which is located under the ice maker which is right above the ice maker paddle. could this cause any problem with the making of ice. the spring has no recoil left in it. please advise thanks

  • yava4 Sep 03, 2010

i replied back to you a couple of days ago to let you know that i replaced the inlet valve but still no ice... please look at my last resonse. thx

  • yava4 Sep 03, 2010

replaced my inlet valve but still no ice forming the only way the ice will come is if I close the switch off and turn back on and press ice paddle 3 times forward and with in 5 min the rake pushes out rhe cubes from mold.... can the spring which is flimsy on the ice paddle be causing this or do I have to replace the ice machins. thanks

i already replaced the water inlet valve. please review all my previous comment to get a better understaning of my problem....maybe that will help narrow down the exact problem.thx

  • yava4 Sep 20, 2010

i take back my last comment about ice flap spring...i noticed that when the light indicatior for quick ice is off I get ice filled up the next day as opposed to when its on, i get no ice. Dont know how to explian it!

Hi!!

Check that the water inlet valve is open all the way. The ice machine needs more pressure than the water dispenser to work. In your Fridge owners manual says that if the filter is dirty, the unit will dispense water but it won't make any ice.

Check this web site for more Info. on your GE unit. http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/repair/refrigerator-freezer-icemaker.htm

Good Luck!! Don't forget to rate this post!!

So every time you talk to a new Expert, you got to explain the whole thing again and all the repairs you already tried. This will help the new Expert to concentrate in what's not been tried. I thank you for your patience.

Going back to your Ice Maker problem, I think this is something you have not tried, have you??

    Water Inlet Valve

Your icemaker's water inlet valve could be filled with ice. If it is, simply thaw the its water tube with a hair dryer to remove the blockage. Be careful to not melt any plastic parts with the blow dryer.

An icemaker's water inlet valve has a filtering screen to block minerals and other debris from entering into your ice cubes. It is possible that the water inlet valve's screen is blocked, and not allowing any water through to make ice. Clean out any built up debris you find. You should be able to pop the screen out of place with a screwdriver and then put it back in place with the screwdriver again once it is cleaned.

Here is a blow up diagram of the Ice Maker with the part # and name.

I just thought of something, you replaced the water inlet valve, so you know how it goes. Could be possible to shut the water valve, remove the inlet valve and place a container if front of the line, turn the water valve on to see if there is water coming and to see if there is enough pressure.

I was thinking that could be a kinked or obstructed water line between the "Y" that goes to the dispenser and the Ice Maker.

when i replaced the inlet valve part of tubing craked b/c of wear and tear . so i trimed off a piece but there is a wire mesh that holds tubing in place once line is inserted, but that got damaged in the process any suggestions as to how to keep tubing in place once i insert the tubing in inlet valve? Otherwise my machine is making ice now and thats due to replacing the spring that goes by ice flapper

  • Rene J Solis Sep 15, 2010

The mesh you're talking about is actually a filter to produce ice cubes free of impurities. I suggest to replace mesh before using ice maker. If you need your ice maker very bad, then install tubing with the damaged mesh while the new one arrives, but you'll run the risk to get impurities in your ice cubes.

Check the trouble shooting section of your Refrigerator's manual to verify the settings on your unit.

Hi, first check to make sure you have water pressure at your supply line. (flex hose) If you have pressure and the icemaker is cycling, (arm moving up and down on its own) you most likely have a defective water inlet valve. This is the valve that the supply line connects to. Water is fed to this valve through your flex hose and then passed through a solenoid to your icemaker when the solenoid is energized.

Have u checked the water valve in the rear behind the panel to assure that you are getting water going up to the ice maker there are two lines that come off the water valve one goes to the water dispensor which actually has nothing to do with the ice maker so first thing to do would be to assure that your getting power to the valve next thing that you could do is take an extension and put two terminal ends on it and try giving power to the valve manually this if your valve is working properly will send water up through the line or you can unplug the line and have it go into a small bucket in back of the fridge so first thing is to check the water valve then to assure water is going to the icemaker if your were getting water inside the icemaker from the vavle then i would have to say your icemaekr would be bad so try the water repair first 7 outta 10 times it is a water problem please remember to rank this opinion on repair of your appliance situation and if you have any other questions message me back thanks again

no you can have excelent flow to your water dispenser its the other side of the valve that goes to the ice maker so if theres an obstruction or that other side isnt getting power to it you will get no water to your icemaker while you will get water to the dispensor there are two differnt lines going from the valve one to the dispensor and one to the icemaker check it out and write me back thanks again

you mean the lever? the lever basicly tells your ice maker when there is enough ice in the tray stops makin ice but u still would have water inside the tray if it told the ice maker to stop making the ice

i put in a new valve but still no ice. the paddle that i am refering to is under the main unit of the ice machine not inside it. GE told me to test the ice machine by pressing the paddle in 3 x's and w/in 15min will push ice out of mold which it did ...water then filled up but that was it no more ice came out. apperently i keep having to reset it to have ice come out of mold.

I would just buy a new icemaker they start at about 60.00 and are very easy to install if you think that the lever is the problem your able to see the actual problem with the unit and do the proper tests so all in all if you think that its the arm cuasing you the problem check marone appliance parts there pretty cheap. please remember to rank how this opinion helped in your appliance situation and if i can answer any further questions message me back have a great day

Won't dispense ice

Check Temp inside freezer. It has to be down to about 10 or 15 degrees
This can cause slow ice making if its too high even tho its freezing everything else at 25 degrees
See if water is in icemaker.
Pour water in Ice Maker and wait to see if it ejects.
If it ejects thenyou need to replace water valve in rear bottom of fridge(Its the part that
attaches to water line out of wall)
If it doesn't eject then it is a faulty Ice Maker.
If its leaking same part needs replaced. The water valve at the bottom rear of fridge.

My Aman side by side quit dispensing water. It

Does your fridge have a small tank inside the food compartment? If so, the water may have frozen in the tank and the problem can be solved if you take a blow dryer and warm the tank. That's what happened to mine and with a temp adjustment to keep the food compartment a bit warmer, the water doesn't freeze.

You can use a hairdryer on the frozen parts.
The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..

Refrigerator side won't cool

its iced up and needs to be thawed. you can use a hair dryer and make it fast in say 2 hours. the freezer side is blocked from admitting cool air to the fridge side. your defrost timer may be defective or you had a real humid situation that caused it to ice up.

Water wont flow into LG LX259602b ice maker

You may have a bad water valve.  The valve has 2 sections, one for the water dispenser and the other for the ice maker.  Check those connections in the back of the refrigerator.  If everything is ok, replace the water valve.
