My student daughter bought a Dell 1545 on my advice. After just 18 days of ownership, she spilled an ice tea beverage all over the laptop. After drying out, it would not work; Dell refused to repair under warranty, and said it was uneconomical to repair - in other words, I suppose a new motherboard etc cost more than the original laptop! This is ridiculous! The screen is presumably still perfect; probably the hard disk, and ram, and loads of other components - the li-ion battery, re-charger, etc. are just fine..no? Why can't it be economically repaired? How much does it cost to test a motherboard (or replace it, and see if it works)? It seems a real shame to throw the rest of it away - well, a new battery costs about $150, the charger is about $50, the screen - I have no idea - etc., so why can't you price replacement motherboards economically? My daughter needs a laptop for her university studies, and I have no money to help her...

Hi,
You are completely right. There should be lots of parts that can be working properly.

So, You should contact another service other than dell. You may get it fixed for a motherboard (or whatever parts that are not functioning) fee + service I think.

Please check your Warranty coverage and see if there is a notation that indicates the entitlement of accidental damage such as the spilling of liquid. Call Dell Customer Care and see if they can give assistance. Please let me know if the information has been helpful. Thank you.

My Friend bought a Dell insparian 1545 laptop and one day a cup of tea feel down on touch pad integrated mouse. Touchpad mouse stopped working after that. She had bought the laptop on 10th December, 2009....

She will have to take it to a repair shop and have the touchpad replaced. This is going to cost her about $200, since the warranty has expired a few days ago. Unless of course she had got extra warranty, in that case it will be free.

I was watching a movie in my dell 1545 laptop...my daughter spilled little apple juice in the key board.i switched off the laptop at once.i wiped dried and used hair dryer a bit and tried to switch it on...

Hi riya123
This is a tricky one as Dell's are known to be fragile and they certainly dont have a taste for apple juice, have you tried orange?
Otherwise it sounds like your daughter has damaged a component on the motherboard. This can be a variety of things. Unfortunetly for you theres a good reason why IT engineers such as myself dont like Dells. This is because typically every component (except the RAM and HD are all fixed to each other. In other words you mess one thing up you mess the computer up and have to send it back for a replacement. Dont take my word for it but thats usually the case.
THE GOOD NEWS is that your files can be easily extracted if the Mboard is indeed dead.
My advice would be to take the laptop to bits and have a look to see if theres any obvious problems such as burnt out components. (http://www.insidemylaptop.com/take-apart-dell-studio-1537-laptop/). Take care not to touch anything conductive though.
Otherwise
if you need to know how please feel free to email me at [email protected] and iul be happy to take you through the steps.
Good luck! Brad

Leave it for a while, couple of days,it might just work,or it might just not work,it might allow a recovery without the screen, does it have an external monitor socket ,if so use that to determine exact problem,on my netbook Fn-F5 toggles between screen and external monitor but most differ--good luck!

I cannot remember my bios password for inspiron 1545

Dell Inspiron BIOS Password Recovery

Each Dell Inspiron has a master password which will clear the BIOS
password. You can get this number by calling Dell Technical Support at
(800)624-9896.

Dell Technical Support will request the Service Tag and Express
Service Code from the bottom of your Inspiron.

If you were not the original owner of the Inspiron, Dell will transfer
registration of the used Inspiron from the original owner with only
the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the tag on the laptop.

To transfer the registration of a used Dell Inspiron, fill out the
Transfer of Ownership form on Dell's web site.

Hope it would help..

Water spilled into my laptop Dell Latitude D600. what do i do

  1. Disconnect any power and remove the battery
  2. Tilt the system in various angles to drain as much of the water from the system as possible.
  3. Let the system dry for several days, (I'd say a minimum of 4) is a relatively warm place
  4. Insert Battery, see if system will power on.
If the system was powered on when the spill occurred and turned off by itself during the spill, then the motherboard has most likely been damaged and will need replacement. ($100 or so on EBay)
If the system will not power on after drying, you might consider replacement rather than repair as the cost of fixing it could exceed the replacement cost. (Dell has portables starting around $399)

My dell inspiron 1000 also won't turn on

Water spills are terminal for a powered up laptop....especially the older Dv1000s. I am afraid your dv1000's motherboard is fried. There is no resurrecting from that.....you need another motherboard.

How to?

I unfortunately found this site to be unhelpful. :( I am doing a trial and error thing until I am able to figure this out on my own. I am using it similar to a coffee maker. I put two tea bags in, filled the water up to the water line, poured water into the top, fill the jug with ice to the fill line, plugged it in and pressed start.
