It is the amount of remaining shots the camera buffer will hold. Page five of the manual show the LCD and page number for each item therein. Turn to page 36 for a full explanation of the buffer.

hmmm... BubaJones is teling you that you can take additional 7 pictures with r07 message and you are thankfull for that. Didn't you mention that you "...cause i have this error and thecamera doesn't take pictures..."
I have heard this buffer holding thing so many times over and over... but people, please read: Camera refuse to take ANY picture and displays r07. The only way I can continue to work is remove and reatach the lens, sometime I have to do it several times... take few shots and here it is again. And buffer can't be full since r07 comes when I just turned the camera on.

Could you please tell me what r07 error in my viewscreen means.. Shown now matter what lens is used.. Nikon D80 Thankyou

This is not an error, it is telling you how many pictures can be taken in quick succession and stored in RAM, for writing to the memory card at the card's speed. It's described at the bottom of page 36 in your manual, I looked it up.

Page 132 of the D80 manual explains the FEE error: Lens aperture ring not set to the minimum aperture. That would be the largest number which may be 22.

Error message on my Nikon D80

I have the same message r07 on the same camera & lens combination. It is an lens error message that the lense will not focus. You can manually focus the lens in the auto mode and the camera will allow you to take a picture. I have been told it is the MR unit and cost of repair around $135.

My d80 with 18 - 135 mm lens often does not work in the automatic mode and the screen shows 'r07'. It works in all the other modes and sometimes even the automatic mode will work. Any suggestions? VM

What focus mode? In AF-S the shutter won't release until focus is acquired.

The r07 isn't an error. It's simply telling you how many more pics you can take in burst mode before the buffer fills up.

I can't take a picture. It reads on the top right ''F--'' and on the bottom right ''r07''

The F means that the lens is not reading properly. The reason for this depends on the lens, but it's usually because the contacts between the lens and the camera are dirty. Remove the lens and clean them with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol.

If you're using an older lens, you may also have put the lens in manual aperature mode. You should select the aperature marked with the red if you have an old lens. (New lenses won't allow you to set aperature with the lens...so this isn't a problem.)

Error message r07 on D80

Hi,

his isn't an error message. R04 or R07 or R[any number] refers to the number of shots you can take before you're camera's internal memory buffer is full.

As you're taking pictures, you're camera is writing to your memory card. When you are taking burst photographs, all the other photos you've just taken are "waiting in line" to get written to your card. If your buffer is full, the camera will not let you take another shot until it's finished writing the photo to the card.

Your camera's ability to write to the memory card is only as fast as the memory card itself as well as the quality of the photos (RAW vs. JPEG).

Sports photographers usually shoot in JPEG because they are taking a lot of shots relatively quickly and if their camera freezes then they can lose a shot.

the R means remaining, so R03 three shots remaining/left before the buffer is full.
Switching off the NR high iso and long exposure. buying a 166x card or faster will help but you won't see it on the counter.
If you do the above and switch to jpeg only it goes up.
you won't do this but, the above and quality to basic and small gives R51.
But if you shoot raw its R06 at best.

Any further help, let me know.

Nikon D80 error

The CPU contacts on the lens can sometimes get dirty and they can be cleaned by gently rubbing them with the eraser end of a pencil.   Be very careful to not get any of the eraser rubbings into the lens.   Also, when handling a lens, don't touch these contacts, as the sweat from our hands is not good on the metal.
