Question about Inland 08216 2-port KVM Switch

KVM Switch Issue

I purchased an Inland KVM switch for switching between my laptop and desktop. When booting the laptop first everything works fine. However, when I boot the desktop first, it only recognizes the monitor. The keyboard and mouse will work when plugged directly into the desktop.

Any ideas or solutions? I have traded all cables and still not luck.

There is a natural order of things in pc's. It sounds to me like you may have an issue with the pc being just quicker than the lap top and it is loading in a hodge podge way.
I wish I could help you more but I would try going to a ps2 mouse and keyboard if you have the usb type and if not swap these two out as these must pass before the unit will even boot. Also - do you have a slave drive marked cable select? These things upset a delicate balance. I would also email the maker and see if they can help.
For a more definitive answer please send the make - model and operating systems on each pc - lap and desk - also have you done all your updates? Try updating the driver on the KVM website as well. These issues usually are a small matter to get lined out.

Let me know how it goes and send ur pc info

I have been using my Iogear kvm switch for almost 2 years now to switch between a desktop and a laptop, both Windows XP. I unplugged the laptop in a hurry to go do a presentation, and plugged everything...

This almost sounds like the display setting on your laptop was changed to an external device. Most laptops are designed to be hooked up to an external display, such as a monitor or projector, specifically for presentations. You can alternate the display options in the following ways:

  1. Laptop display only
  2. External display only
  3. Laptop+External clone
  4. Laptop display + extended desktop on external display (dual monitor setup)
Check your laptop display settings and make sure that it's not in presentation mode (options 2-4) before connecting the KVM switch to it. It may be recognizing the KVM switch as an external display in option 4 mode.

The control for Inland KVMs is ScrLk + ScrLk + #. Example: ScrLk + ScrLk + 1 gives you the first attached computer, ScrLk + ScrLk + 2 gives you the second.

Mouse and keyboard not recognized on second computer

Solution for the mouse. I have 8 KVM's. Most of my computers work with the KVMs. On 1 inland KVM the logitect and Microsoft optical mice do not work on one computer (but work with the other computers). They both are USB. I hook them up with a USB to PS2 adapter. If I use a ps2 ball mouse connected to the KVM the mouse works. All the Mice work if I directly connect them. Since I do not want a ball mouse I got a Frisby optical PS2 mouse. It works with all the computers on the KVM's.

I do not have a solution for the Keyboard yet. 1 computer (ASUS MB) on my trendnet or belkin 4 postion KVM does not recognize the keyboard.

We have the same model and the same problem. The scroll lock combo did not work for us. You need to press Ctrl, Ctrl then up or down arrow.

The manual was a load of old Tom *** as it did not mention this.
