The Inspiron 1525 has 2 motherboards. Part # N122G and J046C. You'll have to get the board that was sent with the original base configuration. Just call technical support at 1-800-624-9896 and check which part # is needed for your system and then order one accordingly from sales.
It depends on if he's buying in a store or online. If he's buying online from Dell he can customize his Inspiron 530 to include a CD/DVD burner. However the default Inspiron 530 does NOT come with a CD/DVD burner which means your friend would not be able to use his nero software.
Without looking at your laptop, it is hard to tell.It could be a bad solder joint or loose part inside.
