Question about Transcend (TS40GSJ25) 40 GB Hard Drive

Hello, I own a Trancend 40Gb PORTABLE USB DEVICE. I am facing problems to access my files. I connected to my pc using both USB & Electrical plug withoyt any success. The device dowes not appear in my list Thank you Dimitris

If you get no joy using the Troubleshooting Guide then try this...
You will need to check You Tube to find a Dismantle on your product and follow the step guide on here, the procedure should be similar.
Check 1st that your External HDD has an P.C. internal HDD inside, from You Tube, before dismatle of your External HDD. Connections for an Internal Laptop HDD may have same connections as P.C. not sure though.
Once your happy that it has continue reading and follow the step guide on the link below.
My neighbour has the Seagate FreeAgent Desk 500GB, and in under 2 weeks it started to beep and was not reconized by any Laptop or P.C. if this is the same for you with any FreeAgent Desk series ( not GO series, different procedure for GO products). My trancend 8 gb has become write protected. I used the regidit formula but the problem continued


Flash drive is write-protected, meaning there is damage to the firmware. To repair damaged Transcend firmware, use JetFlash Online Recovery software.

1. Download software JetFlash Online Recovery (open link - select type software - select OS Windows - select language English - select product JetFlash All Series - Download)
2. Insert the flash drive
3. Open file OnLineRecovery.exe - Select the volume of the device - Repair the drive & keep data existed - START. If it fails, select Repair the drive & erase all data - START.

I m using transcend 640GB.when i connect it to system explorer is not notifying the device.but it is visible in device and printer section of device manager


Probably a drive letter conflict
go to disk management, right click on the trancend drive and change drive letter, choose a letter further down , maybe T for trancend

I have purchased a Buffalo portable Hard Drive & I cannot get it to work. Model - HD-PE320U2. Any Clues??


just connect the cable in to the system and go to disk management system by right click on my computer and go to manage option in that you will see disk management option. if it is listed there then access it other wise go to device manager option and check there is any devices listed in yellow mark uninstall it and refresh it. It will automatically install .still you facing the problem then change the usb cable.

How do I download music on it? It says manage files diretly through windows in portable device. Cannot find that.

For most portable storage devices, you simply connect it to your computer using the supplied cable or in some cases, a generic USB cable. When Windows recognizes the device it will appear under the listings in "My Computer". Simply "drag-and-drop" the music files from your desktop computer to the portable device. Or "copy and paste" them to the device. Note that files shown as "protected" will not be recognized by most players.

Have bought a second hand IBM USB Portable Diskette Drive. It worked just fine at the sellers place. Now that I try and use my own PC I load a 1.44 Mb diskette and it tells me to load disk ??? What to do...


Hi Graham,
Your Portable USB 3.5 diskette drive uses a pretty old technology that would come with software or drivers needed to run it. You would need to check on your device manager on control panel. But I would advise you upgrade yourself to better storage devices like the flash drive or the CD/DVD USB portable drives. They are a bit more expensive, but the technology is newer and have less issues. Let's face it, the 3.5 diskettes are getting pretty outdated. Don't you think so?

t seem your usb device are not compatible with your systems or if u had use this usb device before..go to device manager and remove/uninstall usb controller..then restart your pc

USB IOGEAR not recognise


Most portable HDDs show up without drivers being required, so, assuming other drives or USB devices show up the general assumption is that either the circuit board in the enclosure has failed or the HDD has failed.

Assuming it doesn't work on other PCs and that other USB devices do, take the external drive to your local computer shop and ask to have the drive tested and moved into a new enclosure. If the drive is OK then the people at the computer store can simply transfer the drive into a new enclosure and it will work. If it fails testing you will likely need to send the drive to a Pro, I would recommend Armor-IT Data Recovery(listed in the FixYa directory).

You can swap the enclosures yourself if you have basic hand tools and are feeling handy but it might be nice to have the techs at the local shop test the drive.

If you need any further instructions add a comment on this post and included the make and model# of the failed external drive and I will offer further assistance.

Failure to read USB connected storage drives


What I have seen with some computer models, is that the USB port cannot deliver enough current to run some devices.

If possible, use an external drive with its own power supply and see if it will work. Most likely it will.

Also, try a powered USB hub. I found that most of the time, a powered USB hub solved many problems with having enough power for some external USB devices.
