Open Question

Cannot get TBC 230 to run. stripped down completely, started up ran 2 seconds does not appear to get fuel to engine. spark good, new plug fitted ran 2 seconds again then stopped still will not run. stripped carb and rejointed still no joy. at wits end cannot find anywhere Uk to get replacement engine. help please.

Did you change the fuel cap .
consider changing it , if the cap is old or not sealing well air comes in and causing this problem.

paul 46 here.

all being well and compression and spark and timming , muffler is clear , carby is clean , and diaphrams are all ok , fresh mix , and fuel filter and lines are good

does the unit run with 2 stroke mix in the plug hole - ?
if yes assume compression and spark are ok,, if no check compression and spark and muffler

will the unit run with 2 stroke mix sprayed into the carby throat ?

if it does sounds like you have a air leak somewhere in the intake system

could be at barrel base gasket, c/case joint, manifold boot/ block gasket, carby gasket , impulse hose ,if this unit has one , c/case main seals leaking

2 strokes need air tight c/cases in order to pump fuel / air / oil mixture from c/case to cylinder
and to create a vacuum for entry of fuel/ air / oil mix from carb to c/case

symptoms of air leak are -: hard to start, wont idle, stalling, low power, inconsistant idle, over rev
overheat

pressure and vacuum testing can be done by blocking off intake and exhaust with rubber and metal plates , then fitting adapter to spark plug hole , and placing piston at bdc , pressureise cylinder to 7 to 8 psi of pressure and check areas , base gasket, manifold joint, main seals, , impulse hose ? for leaks with soapy water - if leaking bubbles will be evident

if no leaks and pressure is held at 7 psi for at least 2 minutes with dropping - presure test is good
next do the same test using vaccuum again go to 20 - 30 inch / vaccuum

if vaccuum held unit is ok

suggest take a good look at carby particularly if P and V test are good and spark coil tests good with a coil load test using a spark gap of 6.00 mm to stress the coil ( simulates spark under compression load)

have a look and let me know what you find

Try replacing the plug.could also be a spark problem from the coil .you can purchase a spark tester which you can fit between the plug and lead .pull start mower and watch if spark is good.if ok then get a can of carby clean start mower and spray carby clean spareingly while running and if it keeps going the fuel is the problem

Why won't my jeep start after replacing the battery & the spark plugs?


Need four basics to start the engine; timing, spark, fuel and air.

Is the engine cranking? If so, have someone to spray 'starter fluid' into the immediate air induction port. If it doesn't fire and run for a few seconds, check the distributor source. If it does fire and run for a second or two, you may have a fuel pump down.

Hi, chances are the old fuel has gone bad and caused the spark plug to get muck on it, i would go out and buy a new spark plug then leave the plug out but fitted to the ht lead, then rest the plug on a metal part of the engine then try stating it and make sure you have a good strong spark between the gap in the plug, if you have a good spark then take the plug out the ht lead but also leave it out the engine, then keep pulling the starter for about 20 to 30 seconds to ensure you have only the new fuel coming through into the combustion chamber, you should be able to smell the fuel after few seconds, then put the spark plug back in and try starting it, you should find it will now start.

McCulloch 3200 won't run


sorry but really does sound as its only ran for 15 secs on the choke cleaner , we usually change the fuel filter ( thats inside the tank , use a hooked piece of stiff wire to pull it up ) , you will likely need to do a full strip and clean of the carb and fit a new diaphragm the small needle valve may well be stuck into its seat , also watch for the fuel line being perished , and very important , make sure its full of of chain lube oil and pumping correctly ( do this before you even fit the chain and bar )and the chain is tensioned correctly and the clutch and chainbrake operates properly

Stihl weed eater runs 2min. then stop


Stihl weedeater was running and stopped suddenly. Put in a new fuel filter and cleaner air filter with soap and water. Checked spark plug and it appeared fine. Started the weedeater, ran for a second or so and stopped. Spark plug wasn't gas fouled. Could it be the carburetor needing new diaphram gasket and spring.

Check catalytic converter, my brother in law had same situation on Rodeo, I still have a hard time believing it but the converter was plugged.

95 GMC Jimmy 4.3l W vin rough idle


My problem was solved when I repaired my 4 wd activation dash switch. The switch was contacting on 2WD & 4HI at the same time. The front differential activation is vacuum activated possibly creating a tug of war that didn't actually engage it but drained off vacuum from the engine? A theory at best but stumbbled across it because I knew the switch wasn't working properly I repaired it and low and behold rough idle disappeared and all is good for 3 weeks running.
