Question about JVC GZ-MC500 Memory Card Camcorder

Open Question

After "Lens Cap" problem, I sent my JVC GZ-MC500 to the Official Service Center. The problem had gone, but a new problems occur. There is a foggy inside the lens after switch on for a few minutes. The motor's sound can be heard when zoom in or zoom out. The technician of the service told that it's general for this model. I don't think so. I used it without these problem before. I informed him to recheck again yesterday (August 23, 2010) and have to wait for at leat one week for result. Do you have any suggestion to solve these problem? Thank you very much.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
New users get to try the service completely Free afterwhich it costs $6 per call and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

SOURCE: "Lens cap" message

yes I have a solution .. let the company buy it from you and even in a very low price because repairing it will cost as much as a new camcorder, then replacing this stupid camera with 100$ is better than keeping it in front of you and thinkin' about how to repair it .. because as I told you repairing it cost like buying a new one .

SOURCE: JVC GR-D90 Camcorder Lens Cap Problem

Apparently this same problem exists on many different models. I have a JVC grd72u. I called JVC @ 800-252-5722. I selected the "Corrective Action Program" prompt from the automated attendent. I spoke to a customer service rep. They are aware of the problem and are fixing it for free, but only until 12/31/07. I suggest you call ASAP and get your name in the computer. If the problem is something besides the CCD sensor, they will call you with the estimate to repair.

The problem I am facing is,

it says the lens cap is there & remove it, though there is no lens cap.

This seems to me that something is wrong with shutter or there are some mechanical problem.

Both for VDO & Still - the problem is same.

Can anyone help me to solve this problem.

Thanks & Regards.

I HAVE FOUND THE ANSWER!
this is a strange method so bare with me (found the solution on another site)
turn on the camera and then hold it upside down then for want of a better word "tap" the camera near the lens (i tapped the mic in front of the flash) and hey presto your image will return!
dont ask me what this does as i have no clue, it might have the same error after you switch off the cam but just follow the same method and it will show images. or if your not happy giving your camera a slap then speak to JVC or any camera repair centre.
heres then link where i found this solution

Lens cap the screen is black

This is usually caused by a defective CCD image sensor and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

Jvc everio GZ-MC500 does not recognize High capacity SD

Beyond 2GB SD Card this model can not support. Why? because this model carries the logo SD, where as 2gb is the maximum, although there are some companies manufacturing SD with the capacity of more 2 GB but this is illegal(not standard for SD) do not conform with SD. New models can support HCSD (High Capacity SD) as far as 32GB can be found in the market. Hope this helps

Dropped camcorder

When you dropped the camera you ended up jamming the iris closed. There may be additional damage within the lens assembly. In order to repair the stuck iris, the optical lens assembly needs to be partially disassembled. This is not a project for the novice. This should be taken to a JVC authorized service center for a repair estimate. The estimate will cost about $50 or so.

JVC has acknowledged a fault on their side that will cause certain models to display the "lens cap" error, and they offer free repairs, unfortunately your model isn't on the list. You still might get some consideration, since there are plenty of models from the GR-D series listed. Here's a link to the JVC site : http://www.jvc.com/support/notification/index.jsp?pageID=2 You're not alone though, it's a very common problem also with models that are not listed by JVC. I only heard of complaints by people that JVC refused to help, but it won't hurt trying, maybe they'll give in to public pressure eventually. Good luck
