Question about HP PAVILION A6230N DESKTOP PC

2 Answers

HP Presario V200 freezes up on the HP Invent splash screen. When I turn the computer on it freezes on the hp screen. Pressing F1 for setup or F10 for recovery does not work. The screen will just hang there until I turn the computer off. When the computer is powered back up same thing happens, over and over...any thoughts johnnyzero2a had a fix for a desktop, and said this was a common design flaw. Any solutions for the V2000 with no card reader cable? TY

Before laying blame, we first solve the problem , and learn what it was, then lay blame. using PROOF.
not only that but all things this old have no warranty at all.
and this old have no value, if dead. zero.
why because fixing it costs more that finding another that old working, at say GOODWILL(tm) stores, endless working old laptops there. dont you know.
Ok lets diagnose it.
Ok this is called, WONT BOOT TO THE OS.
learn that all PCs fail, all do , just like cars, and machine made by man. The more complex it is the more likely the failure.
so why not ask who to troubleshoot this PC, the page
on your PC tells you step by step what to do with black screens.
ever read that?
That F1 F10 screen is the BIOS screens.
these screens work EVEN if the Hard disk is missing, or DEAD.

your PC will not boot to the unstated OS, what OS is it?
windows, ? which one, is it? W7?
You can read lies all day long on the internet, why repeat them here?
What matters is your PC and what is wrong, nothing else matters now, so we focus like a laser beam on this BOX.
zero rumors or BS now.
1: it power up and BIOS works I bet all the BIOS screens all work to..
2: did you run the BIOS hard drive test yet, i bet not. and is next.

No boot has many causes, Im not listing them all.
it's a serial diagnostic path, same on all machines,
step 2 is based on step1 ones results.
so do the hdd test., in BIOS.
your screen is not dead,
the BIOS is ok
the mobo seems ok.
so make sure the hard disk in BIOS is set to boot to HDD first.
if the BOOT to HDD fails now, then the HDD has ISSUES.

what is a V200?
what is V2000
you posted to this, forum is that your PC or was that and error?
PAVILION A6230N DESKTOP PC (why post 2 different systems?)
is an old product from COMPAQ. its very old
what is the card reader stuff what does that have to do with any boot failures.
I presume its Desktop
here is HP list of old not supported desk tops called that name.

  • Presario CQ1
  • Presario CQ3000
  • Presario CQ4000
    • Presario CQ5000
    • Presario S
    • Presario SG
    • Presario SG2
    • Presario SR
    • Presario SV
  • but my guess is its a LAPTOP, sad to have to guess..

The v2000 is a 2005 built PC, 12 years old, not a spring chicken at all. most pc this old the COIN CELL is bad, causing
BIOS to go nuts !! and the time ,date to fail.!! \ replace it.

the second thing is to boot with no MAIN huge BATTERY .
run only on Line power, boot ok now?
    I bet no.

The name Presario was used for both Desktops and laptops
my guess is its really a
    "Compaq, Presario V2000", (with 3 zero's not 2)
that is a laptop , nice to know its a laptop because
they are unique in the world of fixing computers.

My guess is the HDD is bad. (if you test it and it fails, its BAD)
do no for a fact all HDD fail, ALL DO, not one last for say 15years.
(unless parked in a closet for 15 years) they fail.
if the HDD is good then the startup files are corrupted.
if all that is ok the windows login screen happens.

if the HDD is good. the OS is bad.
    the OS was unstated,
but back in the COMPAQ days, (HP retired support on it)
some only can be reloaded with new OS by
going the and asking for the
    for this PC.
they will point to the correct source of disks to reload your unstated OS.

here is the offical HP page on this topic,

if you upgraded your PC to a newer OS
and HP does not support that newer OS on this old LT.
then your are on your own. (call geek squad and go broke?)
they will charge you 5times more to fix it then getting another like it.

do not pay , $30 to scalpers here, and spammers
there is no remote access to dead OS, ever.

How do I disable the video componet on the motherboard of my Presario SR2032X so I can install a new video card in the PCI-Express slot?

You need to enter the BIOS utility. Depending on the age of your computer, this requires you to press the F10 key when the first splash screen appears after turning on the computer. (Some machines built prior to 2006 use F1.) Sometimes this can be difficult to time; be prepared to shut down and retry.

Once in that utility, press the right arrow key and go to the Advanced menu tab. Press the down arrow and go to the line Primary Video Display. You need to change this to the Slot Type (with the + or - keys).for your computer.

If you want to leave the setup and save, press F10. Alternatively, use the arrow keys and go to the Exit tab and go down to the first line and hit enter.

Turn off your computer, unplug everything and insert the new card following the directions for that device.

    I hope this helps.

I have an HP Pavillion a1250n which has a MS-7184 V1.0 that will not boot. When turned on the HP Invent logo screen appears with thw following at the bottom:(Esc=Boot Menu)(F1=Setup)(F10=System...

It sounds as though you might have a problem with BIOS.
You should remove your motherboard battery (little round silver disc) and if you can find (or Google motherboard model#) the CMOS reset jumper, you can remove the battery for 30 seconds and put it back in and reset the CMOS, then see if it boots. If it doesn't, you might need to flash the BIOS, which is not recommended unless you know what you are doing.

To restore the BIOS default setting, open the BIOS Setup screen as follows:

    (i) Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.

    (ii) Turn on the computer.

(iii) When the first screen displays:

    (a) Immediately press the F10 key if your computer was built in 2006 or later (came with Vista).

    (b) Press the F1 key if your computer was built before 2006 (XP or earlier). Press the key once every second until a BIOS Setup utility screen opens.

NOTE: On some Compaq Presario computers (before 2002), press the F10 key at the logo screen.

(iv) After the Setup Utility screen opens, press F9 key to select and load the BIOS Setup Defaults .

    (v) Press F10 to Save and Exit .

(vi) Using the arrow keys select Yes and then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?.
