Is the fan motor working in freezer ? is the defrost element getting hot to defrost coil completley ?if they are working then the defrost thermostat may not be working correctly .its connected to the coil and has 2 wires, its round, clips on the coil..good luck this t-stat shuts off the defrost element; if coil is defrosted; before the timer finishes its defrost cycle

Upper fridge won't go below 50 degrees, but freeze section is freezing things to hard...do not hear the fan running.....ice behind panel in fridge....

Auto defrost mechanism is not working . Check defrost heater element, defrost timer, defrost thermostat for operation.

In meantime defrost unit completely and it will work fine for a few days till it freezes up again. Probable open heater element.

[frozen heat pump coil], freon checked, contactor replaced, outdoor defrost thermstat repaced..worked all of a very cold december, temp rose to 50 degrees for 2 days,7 once temp dropped again, coil froze up...

THE ONLY THING THAT CONTROLS THE DEFROST CYCLE is the defrost thermostat and the actually defrost control board. along with making sure there is enough freon in the system to switch the unit over and move the reversing valve when it is time... if they have changed the defrost thermostat and you are positive the freon level is good the it appears you may have a bad board on the unit.... be advised the unit should frost up in cold temps and is normally to have frost built up on it then will go into defrost mode. if the unit is freezing over then yes you have a issue.
good luck to you

Self defrosting fridge/freezer

Good day,
That is normal if the room or area is too cold. If the room temperature drops below 55 degrees Fahrenheit then that problem will start to show up.
All manufacturers state the machine will start to unbalance below that temperature.

My refrigerator model #hmg6414 will freeze for

if the rear frz back wall frzs up id say you have a defrost problem. 3 things it could be a heater, a defrost thermostat or a defrost timer .
if the unit runs for 2 weeks good then stops and doesnt come back on. id say your timer is bad. usually located behind ref in rear btm.part # 68233-3 roughly 55.00-100.00 depending on were you live. if works 2 weeks good then rear wall freezes up then your heater or thermostat is bad. heater # 61001874 roughly 39.99-69.99 depending were you live and who u use. if defrost thermost part # 52085-29 roughly 29.99-49.99. again depending on who u use. labor between 85-175 .hope this helps you . the heater can be tested if you have a ohm meter touch each end of meter leads to each side of heater if you get a reading on ohms its good, no reading means bad heater thats if the rear wall freezes in back only. defrost thermostat cannot be tested properly.

1999 Frigidaire Refrigerator

Check rear wall of freezer by feel for frost. Heavy, even frost indicates likely problem in the defrost system. Unplug unit. Defrost heater (in freezer behind rear wall panel), defrost thermostat (same area-must be checked at freezer temperature) or Defrost timer-located lower back outside of unit. Near compressor. Do continuity test on heater and defrost thermostat and if they show continuity (good), replace defrost timer. If not, replace the one that tests bad.

Defrost coils fully. Reassemble.

Please let me know if I have helped with comments and rating.

Refrigerator will work about 7-10 days after being defrosted until thick frost builds up again cutting off air flow to both compartments

After 1 or 2 weeks the refrigerator stops working, it freezes up. After defrosting, works perfect for 1 to 2 weeks again

Defrost heater bad, defrost thermostat bad or Defrost timer. Defrost heater and Thermostat can be continuity checked. Defrost thermostat can only be checked if at freezer temperature. Both should show continuity if good. If those two test good the process of elimination means it's the defrost timer. Always unplug refrig when performing these checks

Coils freeze up,refridgerator and freezer stops working

The defrost cycle is not working properly, there are three things involved in system. #1 Defrost timer in refrigerator #2 Thermostat on coils to tell if unit is frozen #3 heater element located under coils thaws coils when frozen. the defrost timer if it is manual < located at the front of light assembly panel in top of refrigerator there will be a hole with a plastic piece that resembles a screw strait screw head> it turns and every 8hrs aprox. it stops operations and starts defrost cycle by allowing voltage to the thermostat and if thermostat is frozen it allows power to element for thawing coils. If defrost timer is manual look for direction it is facing and mark edge to see if timer is turning< very slow turning and is easiest way> if you can get an ohm meter ohm the element on high setting< if it has continuity element is operable> check wiring just to be sure not problem. If you find the timer does turn and doesn't stay in one position over 40 minutes then the thermostat is bad.If element fails tesing then the element is bad and if timer stays in one position then it is bad. If unit is equiped with electronic defrost timer and element is good in would replace timer and thermostat to guaranty that resolved problem

Kelvinator fridge/freezer problem

It could be a thermostat but is more likely to be a defrost problem. If it freezes up within a short space of time I would suggest contacting a fridge guy who should be able to diagnose either the defrost heater, defrost thermostat, defrost timer or thermostat. Hope this is of some help.
