Question about Casio Exilim EX-S500 Digital Camera

Downloading pictures to my computer

I can turn my camera on fine but when I plug in the cable from the USB port, the computer cannot see it and also the lens will not "pop out" like it normally does when I turn the camera on. This causes me to not be able to upload my pics to my computer. Can you offer any advice for a fix?

Are you saying that you turn your camera on and the lens emerges, and then you plug in a live (5volts DC) USB cable, and the lens retracts? If this is the case, then that sounds fairly normal. Your camera has turned itself off in response to you hot plugging the cable. You only need to turn your camera back on. The lens probably doesn't emerge because the camera is in download mode, not shooting mode. In this case there is nothing wrong with your camera, and therefore nothing to fix. If you have tried all this, and your computer still cannot see the camera, try plugging the camera in to other USB ports on your computer. You should have between 4 and 8 to try. Also make sure the plugs and ports are all clean on bothe the computer and the camera. Another thing you can do Lizzie is to get a USB card reader (SD or multi or whatever card your camera uses) for $2 Reject Shop to $10 most camera shops. You put your camera card into the card reader and then plug in the card reader. MOST IMPORTANT! Make sure your camera is off when removing the card, and use the SAFELY REMOVE HARDWARE icon when removing your card from your computer.

Downloading pictures to my computer though a USB port

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

My problem is i cant down load my picture to the computer any more

IF you have plug-n-play capabilities, you also need a USB cord that goes from the camera to the computer - Many have USB ports on the front, now.

1) Plug the USB cord into the computer.
2) Plug the USB cord into the camera.
3) Turn the camera on (some cameras have a setting they need to be on to transfer pics - make sure you're set on that)
4) The computer should find the appropriate drivers and programs to read the pictures on the camera.
4a) If having them on the computer is enough for you, make sure the "delete when transfer complete" box that will be in most programs.
4b) Make sure the pix will download to the folder you want them two.
4c) if you want to make an album/folder for the set of pix from the camera, do so now (program prompts should show you how. If not, hit "HELP") - I usually just use the date in reverse - Feb 20, 2008 would be "20080208" - keeps 'em sorted in order.
5) Click GO, SUBMIT, TRANSFRER, or whatever your program calls it.
6) Turn off camera when all are downloaded.

The program should probably open the folder into which you downloaded the pictures.

I may have missed a step or two, but it should be fairly easy to figure out. You can leave the USB port cable plugged in, if you have enough ports, then all you need to do is connect your camera and turn it on.

thanks.

I plug the camera into the usb port my computer bings but i cannot load picturs ti the computer. I used rthe finpix loading disc but nothing will go to my compuert

You will need to check your manual for download instructions not all cameras are the same however, if you have the camera software installed try following this work flow.
First make sure your camera has enough power to complete the download, turn off the camera plug the USB cable into the USB port on the computer then the mini USB on the camera. If you have been turning the camera on this may be part of the problem a lot of cameras use the playback button to transfer pictures from the camera to the computer.

If you have a USB cable that came with the camera, simply find the port on the camera that the small and of the cable will fit into, and the plug the other end of the cable into the USB port on the computer. Your computer should detect the camera on its own. Go to "My Computer" and click on the drive that matches the drive you pluged the USB cable into. Click on the appropriate files to find your pictures. Once you have found your pictures, press CTRL+A on the keyboard, right click any picture, click on "copy" or "cut" from the menu, then open your "Pictures" folder which should already be on your computer by defualt, right click in the "pictures" window once opened and click "paste" from the menu.

USB cables

make sure you plug the small plug on your usb cable into your camera...easy..
the big plug on your usb cable must be plugged into your usb port on your computer. It can only fit in one way and not upside down. It will also fit into your network port, but this not correct port. If your usb plug fits into the port the right way up, and upside down, then it is the wrong port. If your computer is old, then it may not have a usb port.
