Question about Magic Chef Ovens

Open Question

I have a chef Coronet Integra wall oven. The hinges for the door appear to be spring loaded so that the door will stay shut. The springs seem to be worn out. Where do I find spare parts?

SOURCE: How do get access to the door hinge of my Maytag CWE4800ACB oven

In first, excuse my poor english if i make some mistake.

I hare repair the same problem. part broken in left side and the door fall.
You have to pull out the oven from the wall, use some objet to support the oven, small table or plastic box if you dont want to put down completely.

You have to unsecure the electric wire connection in back if you whant to pull out enough for remove the left cover. You have to remove some parts in front for acces to screws on the side cabinet.

In my case the hinge was broken, i have soldered and fix again.
If hard to replace the spring in the mecanism, you better to do this on the bench before put all in the side of the oven.

I think the maytag oven have the same problem.
Other problem also is the timer alarm sound in the night went you sleeping, prob whit switch sensitif pc board. Now i turn off the breaker in the back of oven all night, and i sleep good.

Bye..

SOURCE: I am trying to find

You could try your local hardware shop, they will stock some springs that may just do the trick, if there were two springs (one for each side of the door) take the remanding one with you to compare sizes. Good Luck

I have taken the door off the oven but how do I get the hinge into the oven section with spring loaded so tight?

When you say the spring is loaded tight I assume that you mean that the bracket is hard against the oven door. The brackets/arms have to point away from the door so they click into the oven. Normally when you pull the bracket down and away from the door you put tension on the spring. Once the bracket travels more that 180 degrees, probably to about 200 degrees the bracket won't normally spring back and should stay there by itself.

Oven door not closing properly

If it is a drop down door with hinges on the bootom of the oven door, then it is likely to be weak door hinge springs, the usual solution is to replace both hinges.
If it is a swing open door, then the problem is related to a worn or broken door catch, or worn striker pin.

We have a 30 in prostyle electric double wall oven - the oven takes forever to preheat and the doors do not seal tightly when they are closed.

Hello- Many ovens use spring-loaded hinges to carry the weight of the door. Over time, these springs weaken or the hinge gets bent just enough to not fully close door. The door gasket can also become flat and stiff, compounding problem. Any small gap releases heated air, and oven will not heat up properly. Replacing the door springs should solve problem.- Thanks -Ed

Can't get the oven door back on. it was sitting

As you said they are spring loaded so be careful. You will need to pull on the hinge, which takes some muscle and you should see a small hole to put a pin or small screwdriver in to hold the hinge out. When this is in place on both the hinges you can put the door back on. This is the most common hinge style on Wpl or there may be tabs on the tops of the hinges to hold the hinge out. If the door still does not close all the way after getting the hinges all the way on you will need to take the door apart and replace the hinge/spring assy. Thanks for rating me after you read this.

Doors don't shut all the way and light stays on

It sounds like your door hinges are worn, usually on older ovens due to weight of door. Most oven doors can be removed by simply raising the tabs/ fitting small screwdriver on both hinges(refer to user manual) etc. Once door is removed you can place a medium size screwdriver or similar in the hinge slot, pushing the hinge plate on the bottom in an outward direction, thereby bending this plate(very slightly) forward. This will make the door close fully, activating the door switch, and turning off the oven light. This is only a short term solution, as this hot air escaping can lead to further problems. Hinge pair will need replacing. Door hinges are spring loaded ALWAYS KEEP FINGERS AND HANDS CLEAR OF LOADED HINGES.

Oven door closure

I had the same problem, the door will come off by opening it partially and lifting it up off the hinge brackets. Be careful, because the brackets are spring loaded and will snap shut when the door is removed. You will find a hinge pin with a spring clip at the bottom of the hinge. It's likely that the spring clip has come off of one of the hinges and the pin fell out. You can find the drawings and part number(s) on the "partsdirect" website using your model number, and even order them there.
