Question about Sanyo PLV-Z2 Multimedia Projector

Lamp mode swtiches to full power in the middle of dvd play

After a few hours of dvd play, the projector lamp switches to full power. I can switch it back down with the lamp mode remote button, but it switches back to full power again after several minutes. I have tried switching the mode via the menu, but the same problem occurs. The lamp goes to full power and the fan gets louder too. It is disrupting our movie experience!
Our movie room is tiny. Do you think the projector is becoming overheated?

Hi Barb99

This could unfortunately be either the fan baord or the Mainboard that has gone faulty.

You will have to get this checked out by a Service Centre as this is one of those problems that need hands on to give you the right diagnosis.

My HD80 has about 700 hours, original bulb assembly, was working fine until I got curious and "activated" the auto off function while going through the menu. Now it will power up, lamp does not go to

Ensure a video source is connected to the projector (VGA, DVD, etc)

Unplug the projector to make sure it has completely shut down (not just went into sleep mode)
Plug in power and power on the projector (make sure video source is on first)
The projector should turn on and switch to the video source (manually select if not)
Once you can see the video source, push menu and turn off auto-off.

Auto-off should only work when the projector detect a video source is no longer present on the selected input. So if you are turning on the projector with no video source connected, it will usually turn off shortly after being turned on.

It could be the wrong lamp. Make sure that the lamp is original factory made. It may also be the lamp ballast which starts the lamp & keeps it burning steady.
Good luck,

Why does the projector keep going to standby mode?

If the lamp usage time has passed 2 000 hours (when LAMP POWER has been set to NORMAL), the projector will switch to standby mode after approximately 10 minutes of operation. The resetting procedure should thus be completed within 10 minutes.

1. Insert the power cord plug into the wall outlet and then

press the MAIN POWER switch.

2. Press the POWER button so that a picture is projected onto

the screen.

3. Press the MENU button to display the menu screen, and

then press the F or G button to select the OPTION menu.

4. Press the ENTER button, and then press the F or G button

to select LAMP RUNTIME.

5. Press and hold the ENTER button for approximately

3 seconds. The confirmation screen, "LAMP RUNTIME

RESET." is displayed and select OK.

6. Turn off the power.

This will reset the cumulative usage time for the lamp
unit to zero.

Hi GiantBryan

If switching the cables did not work , then this is a faulty Mainboard that will need either repair or replacement as discolouration on a Projector could only be the cables or the Mainboard.

Iamge from the previous projection from RGB still appears when i switch to Video mode. why is it?

Hi There

Looks like your Projector's Mainboard has locked the memory and is stuck.

If you can access the Projector's Menu - Reset the machine and switch it off.

If the problem still occurs , you will have to take your Projector to a Service Centre to have to Mainboard repaired.

This is 100% NOT a lamp issue.
