Question about Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital Camera

2 Answers

I have a Canon Rebel XSi. I'm trying to shoot a photo of my sleeping 2 year old, so the light is obviously low. I have the cameral on manual mode. I used the light meter to obtain my exposure, but when I push the button to take the picture, nothing happens. On the right side of the light meter, there is a blinking green light when I try to take the picture. What am I doing wrong? I'm out of town and I forgot my camera manual; I think I remember something in there about troubleshooting this particular problem.

The autofocus can't find anything to focus on. Try switching to manual focus (on the lens barrel), point towards something with better edges of texture, or use more light (flash).

The blinking light may be telling you the picture you want is out of the camera's range. You may have to increase the ISO, shoot at a slower shutter speed, or open the lens aperture.

I have a Canon XSI Rebel that I bought new 2 years ago. For some reason when I'm in AV mode I cannot seem to get the ISO down to 100. Is there a setting that I may have missed? When I have the cam

The AV mode is for setting the aperture (ie Depth of Field).
To change the ISO setting turn the Mode dial to the P position and then turn the Main dial (next to the shutter button) to the ISO setting you require.

Where is the SCN mode on a canon rebel xsi

There are some scene modes available in the Basic Zone. Simply turn the mode dial on the top of the camera to the desired mode.
Full details are in the "Basic Shooting and Image Playback" section of the manual (beginning on page 43 in my copy). If you need a copy of the manual, you may download one here.

Canon eos rebel xsi screen is black when taking a picture but shows picture afterwards..Menu works also so screen works but just black when trying to take a pic..

Set the shooting mode to a Creative Zone mode. Press MENU to enter the menu. Under the Setup tab, select [Live View function settings] then press SET. Select [Live View shoot] and press SET. Select [Enable] and press SET. Press MENU to exit the menu. Press SET. The image should now appear on the LCD instead of through the viewfinder.

Refer to "Live View Shooting," Chapter 5 in the manual for more details and the limitations of the LiveView mode.

No matter what button I push on the Rebel XS EOS, I gat the message ''This function is not selectable in the current shooting mode''

What shooting mode are you in? In manual, the camera leaves most everything to you. In full auto, the camera does everything. Try some of the other modes to see if they offer the functions you want.

Camera xsi rebel 12.5 megapixel won't focus with

Most entry level SLR cameras will struggle to focus in low light, especially with the kit lens. By rights the flash should popup and emit a flash pulse to help focus. This is called focus assist. You might have to consult the manual to check if this function is turned on or not.
