Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

2 Answers

I have a Sears Opener that suddenly stopped opening the garage door more then about 3 feet. Then when I would press the button again, the opener ran all the way down the rail till the carriage hits the pulley at the far end and the opener reverses for a couple feet. I tried adjusting the travel distance screws but they make barely any difference. The opener would travel less and less distance on repeated openings of the door and now the carriage has become jammed up against the pulley at the far end. Are there any tricks to getting the carriage to return without disassembling the chain/cable from the track and opener? The Learn LED is blinking 5 times. I assume because the carriage is jammed up against the pulley. I did not notice if the LED was blinking prior to the pulley getting jammed. Fortunately, I have a extra opener of the same model because I used to have dual garage doors. So I think I'll be swapping openers... Thanks Pat

We have recently been having problems with opening our garage door (Chamberlain Liftmaster Sec. ) with the outside remote and also the 3 button remote. I figured the pad #s may be worn and was time for a new one, but I have used the "learn" button to erase all codes and started fresh, but I can program both remotes and they both work great the first time then stop working. I have vaccuumed the motor as I thought their may be dust or spider web causing, but still have the problem. If anyone can give me some help on this matter I'd really appreciate it. I was going to buy a new remote, but will see if anyone responds to this. TY Loreen

You will need to loosen the chain enough to take the tension off and then run the motor until the door closes. While the door is closed turn the up limit control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Now tighten the chain. It sounds like you have additional problems. Check the door springs and then remove the cover and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor and may be stripped. You also may have been turning the limit controls the wrong direction.

Garage door opener model 139.53985 DM opens only about 2 feet then stops then closes when the button is pressed again; will open when I put pressure on the door and continue that pressure all the way up.

On the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go you will find the 'up force' control. Increase this a bit and try. Make sure you don't have a broken door spring.

The end is near. No just kidding. It sounds like your opener is in 'lock' mode. If you have the wall control with 3 buttons, press and hold the button with the lock icon for 3 seconds. The flashing should stop.

All of a sudden all three remotes stopped working at the same time. Battery is okay, hard wire opener works

You probably have the lock enguaged on the opener. On the wall control, there is a button labeled "lock". Press and hold for 3 seconds and then release. the light on the wall button should be solid now. Your remotes should work. If the light is solid and the remotes still do not work, press the learn button on the back of the opener motor and then press the button on the remote. The light on the motor will blink once. Repeat on the other two remotes.

Programming kepad for Sears Craftsman Garagedoor opener 1/2 hp

The only procedure I have ever followed is to press the learn button and then enter the code, and not do anything else. I think your last step of holding the button until the light goes out is clearing codes as fast as you enter them. Just stop after you enter your code and let the learn mode time out on its own. That should do it.

And don't put your head through the wall. It just causes more headaches.
