    Hi Guys
Thanks for you feedback. I have new info. The tv works perfectly when i connect a dvd or sat recvr directly into the hdmi on the tv. the delay is only when I connect these devices thru my onkyo recvr and then from it to my hdmi input on the tv. i checked the hdmi cable and it is fine. the problem seems to be with the onkyo hdmi out and the sony hdmi in ?? Any thoughts on why this could be? Again getting audio but no video for 15 mins. Thx again.

Hi , I am using a 6 foot cable. The tv and receiver used to work fine together but the delay started after 2 years and has got longer and longer till it takes 15 mins for the picture to come on. i reset the receiver today and it did not make any real difference. Onkyo think I have a faulty hdmi card so my next option is to take it to their authorized service repairer.

Is it Sony KDL-46V2000 tv or any other model?
Does tv give sound while no picture when switched On?
Do you see any light blinking at tv front when it does not show picture?
Sony tv has very less chances of bad capacitors problem and I can provide you correct info if I have answers of above questions.
Thanks.

OK, Does tv give picture other than HDMI?
Change source input for example tv and see if tv gives static noise / picture or screen display etc.
    Thanks.

Right, your Sony tv is just fine and has no problem. It is not receiving video signal from Onkyo receiver for some reason.
I would like to reset Onkyo receiver to clear any glitch in its settings that might causing video output through HDMI
Please check Onkyo manual for system reset procedure or let me know model number to find out its manual in my database.
    Thanks.

Yes, Onkyo receiver should be tested and Onkyo service center will do the job as per their standard procedures.
    Good luck

HDMI systems need to "negotiate" to a degree. I have know of problems with some receivers and the HDMI output getting a bit confused. At this point, attempt a reset of the receiver to clear out any lingering configuration information. While I doubt that this will actually fix anything, it will at least place the receiver into a known state. Please post the cable length being used as well as whether or not this ever worked in the past. Too long a cable can also cause this symptom. Poor quality cables (that allow/pickup interference) can also cause this. Please experiment a bit and post any changes in behavior. With a little detective work, we should be able to resolve this.

Thanks,
Dan

hi ..I am using a 6 ft cable. I reset the rcvr but no real difference. The tv an drcvr used to work fine until a year ago when the delay first started . used to be 5 min delay but now 15 mins. Onkyo think it is a faulty hdmi card in their rcvr. I will keep experimenting and posting findings. thx guys

You are correct, your best bet at this time is to see an authorized service center. I have worked on these units in the past. I would suspect that the HDMI circuit has been effected. It is possible that there was a glitch or surge on the HDMI data line that may have messed up the circuit. Without seeing the unit and taking measurements, I cannot say for sure. This is definately not a DIY repair.

    Thanks for the update.

You LCD should not take 15 mns after turning it one the case may be a bad capacitor not filling, most cases this is found in the power supply unit. the power supply is located under a shroud of metel with hols in it basically easy to get to.

You want to check your CAPS and make sure there are not any buldging or leaking. SSome rare cases it could be a bad back light or inverter ether the case check for bad capacitors first then proceed to troubleshoot from there.

    apparently you have

    1. no SoS codes

    2. you said a tech suspected bad cable (new information since welcomejee jumped in the case)

Here is what I suspected at first, if a tv is taking a long time to post a screen A capacitor could be your issue But if the caps are good, But you have zero SOS but cannot get another input as well this is a LCD TV so you got to keep in ming you got a back light and inverters still to work with in this case.

    1. Sometimes a back light issue will not SOS on you.

    2. that is the same for inverters

Sos codes are problem codes the come into the from of blinks.

Welcomjee is a fine Expert he is trying to narrow it down because not all problems like this are capacitors witch is perfectly welcome in this case.

We just got more information out of you

1/ A tech said bad Hdmi cable

    2. yiou got sound but not picture.

    Try this

    1. reboot the Box (cable box) unplug it entirely

    2. Change the Hdmi cable

    3. Try a different input (As welcomejee expressed)

Ultimately let both of us know your findings. Its one thing to guess and that is not my intentions here at fixya.

Thanks o welcomejee for his in-site and helping in this regard, And to you for providing me more information that i can work with.

I would power cycle the reciever, Like welcomejee said, it might be a glitch.

I am so glad it was not a capcitor or power board, and glad we both can help resolve this issue.

Keep in mind that if it had been a powerboard issue it would have the same symptoms, As you agreed with me before.

without know total details its really hard to diagnose, Today we got full knowledge what your problem is.

If we had that before the issue would be solved with out so much assumption.

Thanks for give-ing us both the oppertunity to help you.

I do stand corrected, But I also would have welcomed more info.

    Thanks

When we turn our TV on we get sound, but our picture is distorted for about 15 min then it's clear. Any sug?

Your TV is about 5 years old.
If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

This seems like a T-con board problem as its responsible for several picture functions including color convergence. Or it could be a bad LVDS cable (inside the TV) I can ship you a new T-caon board for $150.00 or take it too your local shop repair shouldn't cost more than $250.00....
