The reply below was for a plasma TV. the Philips 30pf9946d is an LCD. The problem is when I turn on the TV I get a momentary flash followed by a blank screen. Power light is green and audio is normal.

    Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. A plasma TV is a very hard working device. It is working harder than any TV that has been built before, and as a result it produces a lot of heat. 75% of technical problems in plasma TV's are caused by overheating problems. You?ll need to check the power supply board first for any swollen/bulged capacitors. As power supply board is the hardest working board in a plasma TV, it develops voltage to supply all components, high current + high voltage. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise & know how to solder/re-solder components as these units contain high voltages even when switched off. These kinds of issues in plasmas usually occur after 3-4years. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

    Thanks

I'm not satisfied with the reply I've been give. First, I was given the wrong information for the type of TV I have. Second, the information was so vague that it was useless. How do I get a credit on the $6.00?

This is a classic switchmode power supply, shutting down to avoid a fire, explosion, or both. This set had developed a problem, that is so severe that the set must be shut down, This set should be removed from the Power, and in my professional recommendation, you should get a "Quote" for repair, from, an, Approved Service Center, this point is very important for a good result, Always contact, their local, "Head Office" Now, when you get the information you want, then you can decide as to repair of replacement. The reason we want an approved agent, is that way, all the engineers are trained on their own brand sets, they have seen almost all faults, and will get the job done quicker, and for less cost, and usually have parts on hand, also sometimes, there has been a service bulletin in issued and the repair may be subsided or even free.
Below, is a Training manual, this is what we use to train and assist engineers to understand what's going on, how it works and what to do to troubleshoot, you should find this invaluable if you wish to DIY, this and the Service manual, (Top Most Links) will assist you greatly.

Most often though, it is my professional opinion though that everyone should take their units to their manufacturers approved service center, contacting a head office, of your unit Philips in your case, & getting an approved service center is just SO important, even worth the extra to ship it, you see, at those places, the Engineers, are trained on the equipment you have, they usually have parts on hand, and do the job quicker. Anyway do that and get a "Quote". This way, at least, you'll know weather to repair or replace.

Hello Elviod, hi, its a power supply problem, this usually are overloaded power supply that cannot produce the correct current and voltage due to failures, these failures are usually leaking capacitors, overheating power regulators and shorted sections of the TV. We usually replace the entire power supply board. these needs to be serviced by a technician.

Philips 50 Inch Plasma Model 50PF7320A/37 will not turn on

Commonly it's going to be a power supply related problem. The two boards that need to be looked at is the Main Power Supply Board or the power supply board for the screen. The one that powers the screen, some manufactures call it a Backlight Inverter Board.
If you have some electronic experience, you can sometimes find a Service Manual for the TV over the internet for less than $20. It will have the all resource material for repairing your TV model. It's just the matter of replacing the bad part on the circuit board.

Check the inverter on the sides of the TV. This sounds like the inverter is going bad and that's the reason why you have sound but not picture.

what you have is a bad inverter transformer on the inverter board. I nashed my teeth on this problem for a long time because no diagram is avail. Here's the fix for you:

Remove the invertor board. Take an Ohm meter and measure the outer 4 legs of each transformer. Between pins 1 and 4 (side with the white dot near leg 1) you should read .3 ohms. This side is usually good. Between pins 5 and 8 you should read approx 1.8 to 1.9Kohms. ANYTHING above that is a defective transformer. I'm sorry I do not have the part number for this, I've just been using an old board from a set with a cracked panel. If I can find a part number I will try to post. You can try Encompass parts on the web, they may be able to supply part number and transformer with location number.

HDMI quit working I use this tv for a PC monitor, HD satellite viewing, and XBOX 360. I was having intermittent problems with the HDMI audio bleeding in to the other inputs. Sometimes if for instance I turned on the PC, I could hear the audio from the HDMI output on the satellite receiver through the TV speakers. Other times, I might just hear a crackle in the audio when in PC mode. If I switched back and forth between HDMI and PC inputs a couple of times, both issues would go away. I tell this just as background to what happened next. Since I have my PC hooked to the VGA input on the TV, I have been forced to manually switch the HDMI input from the Satellite receiver to my XBOX 360. (Sorry, I was too cheap to buy the $100 switch). Anyway, I usuall make this switch hot (TV on, Satellite receiver on, but XBOX off. This system although a pain, was working until yesterday. I was watching HD satellite, when I decided to play XBOX. I switched the HDMI cable, but when I turned the XBOX on, it wouldn't start up. I immediately assumed my XBOX had crapped out , but when I switche the HDMI cable back to the satellite, the TV would not recognize the signal. I have since tried the XBOX and satellite on another tv with HDMI, and both still work fine. I am thinking that some sort of switch in the tv has gone out, but I don't know. Should I just junk this TV for a new 1080P? My problem with doing that is that I use PIP with the PC on one side, and HDMI on the other. This tv does that, but I can't find another tv that does.
