Question about Poulan Garden

Open Question

My Poulan 14.5 hp riding mower won't start. Fuel line was clogged initially, but I replaced it. Fuel gets to the carb but will only run if I use carb cleaner or starter fluid. How do I get fuel to flow inside the carb. Model # 27149

SOURCE: have a poulan 38

The float and needle need to be replaced in the fuel bowl. What is happening is, the float is stuck upward raising the needle out of the hole completely causing the carb to over flow. A kit can be bought for $5 or so. Easily replaced. You can also try cleaning it with a mild solvent, but usually when the float messes up it's best to replace.

Remove fuel filter then let fuel run till good. You can use a piece of

When you said "cleaned the carb" - did you disassemble, and clean - or just spray carb cleaner into it?

Sitting for 2 years - the additives in the gasoline can leave a varnish that will clog the tiny jet orifice in the carb bowl.

You'll need to disassemble, and clean out the jet with a wire.

Popping and sputtering can be caused by a few things:

Old Gas - drain and refill with fresh.
Dirty Air Filter - Check and clean/replace it.
Poor Fuel mix/ratio - clogged Carb Jet or sticky butterfly.
Poor Spark - check/change the plug.
Fuel Vaccuum - remove the gascap - and start... the vent hole may be clogged. Clean and/or replace it if it starts running better with the gas cap off.
Clogged Fuel Filter/inlet screen - backflush the tank and the debris should wash back into the tank. Rinse out and re-install.

This is most likely a fuel delivery or spark issue.

Change the fuel and plug first... and give the carb a GOOD cleaning... then re-check.

Thanks!

Starts then cuts off and won't restart

Hello; This is likely a carb problem or clogged fuel line or fuel filter if it has one. If it runs for awhile before cutting out, check your gas cap. They all have some sort of vent to let in air as the fuel level goes down. If the vent is clogged, the carb can only **** out the gas for seconds or a few minutes. john

Mower will not stay running. replaced fuel line. didnt work. as long as i spray starter fluid in air intake it will run

I would first check to see if your fuel pump is pumping any fuel. You can take off the fuel line going the carb and turn the motor over and you should have fuel coming from the line if you dont then the fuel pump needs replaced. If you have fuel at the carb then you have a clogged up carb. GOOD LUCK

Might be fludding..
If there is a bowl on the carb, pop it off and check the float.. Check for fluid inside the float. If the float is holding any fluid - its bad..
Srpay carb cleaner in there..
Clean the bowl..

No Gas

Most probably the carb restricted by varnish, trash or rust. Need to clean carb. You'll probably see the problem when you remove the bowl.
