Ok, try this, start tapping the F10 key until it says system rocovery, and then it gives you the option to choose between a clean up, or a destructive recovery.
Usually these PC's have the recovery software on a Hidden partition, that;s accessed via the F10 key at bootup.
Otherwise you can download a recovery CD from this site below.

If you do not have a recovery disk ..the fastest way and safer and much reliable is to reinstall it clean from a Boot-able disk with the operation system ...
After installing the clean operation system ..all you need is to get the drivers for the devices..(sound; video ;Lan card;//etc) from the HP support site ..and reinstall them for to be working proper..
During the installation you will have to format the Cpartition in order to get rid of all the viruses for sure ..
Here you will find an image file with a boot-able windows XP..that you will have to download using Utorrent or any torrent client software ..and after that burn it on a blank CD using NERO burner software ..
The actual burning is made just by double clicking the file with a blank cd inside..and the Nero program being installed on the computer ..
Here are the links in order for ..windows...utorrent ..and Nero ..
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5388204/Windows_Xp_Genuine
http://www.utorrent.com/
http://www.mediafire.com/file/yznzmdonjgm/Nero%207.rar
just install utorrent first ..than download Nero and install it ..(be sure you insert the product key in the folder) ..and than download the windows xp image file from that link ..
when all that are done and nero installed..insert a blank disk ..and double click on the image file ..it will bur a boot-able windows xp ..
with this cd you will be able to boot from cd and reinstall the operation system ..
after that here you will find the drivers you need for your computer ..

Scan for Viruses

Sudden, unexplained computer issues are commonly caused by a virus infestation. These sneaky programs secretly install themselves on your system and alter the way the machine functions and responds to commands. Eliminate any hidden malicious programs by running a deep scan to find and destroy unwanted programs. You may need to perform a restore or recovery action on your system afterward to replace corrupted files with the correct versions.
Troubleshooting

To determine whether your non-functioning F5 key is due to a software issue or faulty hardware, connect a separate keyboard to your Pavilion. If the F5 key works on the external keyboard, the problem with your Pavilion's F5 key could be physical, such as a dirty key or spilled liquid. If the F5 key does not work on the external keyboard either, the problem likely lies in the software. Make sure that your operating system files are up-to-date to encourage proper communication between the keyboard and motherboard.

Thorough Cleaning

A keyboard key can become non-functional if it cannot make contact with the proper sensor beneath it, such as from accumulated debris or a spilled liquid. Dust, hair and lint can collect beneath and between your Pavilion's keys, which can interfere with proper contact when the layer becomes too thick. Sticky residue left behind by sugary liquids, such as soda or juice, can cause the key to stick, preventing the computer from registering the press. Thoroughly clean the area beneath the F5 key by gently prying the key off and using a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol to remove any dirt or residue.
Safe Mode

When you start your Pavilion, numerous other programs automatically start with it. Any of these programs could cause the F5 key to become non-responsive. Starting the Pavilion in Safe Mode will load only the essential operating system files and drivers, and if the F5 key works while in this mode, your problem most likely lies with an installed program or hardware device. To enter Safe Mode, restart your laptop and press the F8 key immediately. You'll enter the "Advanced Boot Options" menu, where you can use your arrow keys to select "Safe Mode" and press "Enter." If your F5 key still does not work, you may have a problem with your operating system files.

My computer is saying there is a virus and it is stopping me from recovery or booting from a CD..i has had this problem before ..it is windows & and can you help me

Hello, Why not try booting into safe mode, then scan your system with a very good anti-virus to remove the virus, then if you still want to format,go ahead. How do you enter safe mode, you have to switch off your system and switch it on, immediately you switch it on, start pressing the F8 key, you will see different mode you can start your computer with. Choose safe mode and press enter. in the safe mode scan your hard disk thoroughly with anti-virus. Regards

I updated my sound driver and now my windows 7 wont start after a rebbot but starts after shutting down

Ok perform a system restore, press F8 at bootup and choose safe mode desktop, when you are asked if you want the safe mode desktop or system restore, choose restore, and when ask if you want restore or desktop choose restore, restore to a time BEFORE the driver up date and follow instructions and reboot, you should be back where you were.Or start up in safe mode desktop, at desktop, go device manager and "Roll back" the driver. reboot, should be OK.

Help my hp dv2000 just keeps restarting??

Hi,

As the computer is working in safe mode, it is clear that operating system files are corrupt.

Perform a repair installation, if it is Windows XP.

For Vista or Windows 7, you can perform system restore from recovery console. To launch recovery console, insert the disc- restart the computer and boot into the disc. Choose repair in the options tab, then choose system restore from the list.

Regards,

Nags

My eMachines T3882 with Windows XP just reboots over and over

Sounds like a sick hard drive. When it starts to reboot, press F8 and choose Windows Diagnostic Test. It will show a hard drive failure if one exists. If it finds a hard drive error, the hard drive is junk and needs replacing. Once replaced, you can run your restore/recovery disk to install Windows back to the condition it was in when you bought it.

How do I reset my computer to factory mode?

If you mean you want to change the computer back to the way it was when you bought the machine then you need to boot it with the recovery disk and follow the steps to perform a system recovery. If you dont have the disks you may have a recovery partition you can boot into. If you have neither option available you may have to contact HP and order recovery disks which will cost you about $20 - $30.

Why is it you want to do this anyway? Some problems can be solved using other methods.

Cannot start up laptop; may be a virus

Try starting your computer in safe mode and do a virus scan once in safe mode. While in safe mode Windows only loads the basic devices to run your computer and usually viruses are not loaded untill windows starts in regular mode. Don't panic once you are in safe mode and your screen looks all grainy, this is normal.
  1. Restart your computer and press F8 as soon as you turn it on.
  2. Click the "safe mode with networking" option
  3. Update your antivirus
  4. Do a full system scan
  5. Restart your computer and hope for the best.

Turned on laptop says resume windows and screen goes blank and computer is unresponsive.

Try pressing F8 on startup, and chose to start in safe mode, if you can start the computerin safe mode, perform a system restore to an earlier date.

If the computer does not even start in safe mode, then you will need to reinstall the system, either from recovery CD, or from a generiuc windows Setup disk.
