Did you try to after you install the card to go into the control panel and install new hardware in the add new hardware. If I understand you, when you plug the monitor into the new video card it does not turn the monitor on, Even after you install the card and reboot your pc with the monitor plugged into the new device it don't come on, Make sure the old one is disabed in the device manager and it should work, If Not I need somemore information, You should not have to have changed it in the bios, you may want to change that back to the way it was, the radeon is compatible with the emachine and should work just by installing and plugging into it,Try that see what happens.Hope it helps Happy Holidays Just write back here if that don't work and I 'll figure it out for you,

flashing a bios, can render your machine/motherboard useless.
You should always ensure any bios download is from a trusted source. if you experience a power failure, or an incomplete bios file. your computers as good as dead.
Windows 95/98 only supports disk drives to a certain capacity. if you updated to windows 2000/ME/XP your problems may be solved. I,d certainly try that first.
Bios flashing Last resort, even after finding a reliable bios update. also ensure the bios file is 256mb-512mb or equivalent. as this is standard bios file size.
Finally check that your hard-drive does not have a jumper ( Small white/black ) plastic block restricting the drives registered size.
When you install windows XP, it will ask you if you wish to enable LBA ( large block Allocation ) Select Y ( yes )

n1996 is NOT the model number. ALL MSI boards are labeled n1996 - it's their C-Tick number. You need to find the actual model number which should be listed on a sticker near the main CPU socket. Search for that on msi's website.
Let me know what the model # is..
If I could be of further assistance, let me know.
If this solves your issue, please be kind to rate it.
