SOURCE: installing radeon s9259 graphics card on a emachine t5010

Did you try to after you install the card to go into the control panel and install new hardware in the add new hardware. If I understand you, when you plug the monitor into the new video card it does not turn the monitor on, Even after you install the card and reboot your pc with the monitor plugged into the new device it don't come on, Make sure the old one is disabed in the device manager and it should work, If Not I need somemore information, You should not have to have changed it in the bios, you may want to change that back to the way it was, the radeon is compatible with the emachine and should work just by installing and plugging into it,Try that see what happens.Hope it helps Happy Holidays Just write back here if that don't work and I 'll figure it out for you,

SOURCE: need large disc support for old emachine, flash bios? or try restore cds?

Hi,
flashing a bios, can render your machine/motherboard useless.
You should always ensure any bios download is from a trusted source. if you experience a power failure, or an incomplete bios file. your computers as good as dead.
Windows 95/98 only supports disk drives to a certain capacity. if you updated to windows 2000/ME/XP your problems may be solved. I,d certainly try that first.
Bios flashing Last resort, even after finding a reliable bios update. also ensure the bios file is 256mb-512mb or equivalent. as this is standard bios file size.
Finally check that your hard-drive does not have a jumper ( Small white/black ) plastic block restricting the drives registered size.
When you install windows XP, it will ask you if you wish to enable LBA ( large block Allocation ) Select Y ( yes )

SOURCE: mercury n1996.......AGP slot or PCI????

n1996 is NOT the model number. ALL MSI boards are labeled n1996 - it's their C-Tick number. You need to find the actual model number which should be listed on a sticker near the main CPU socket. Search for that on msi's website.
Let me know what the model # is..

If I could be of further assistance, let me know.
If this solves your issue, please be kind to rate it.
Thanks, Joe

I have an emachine t2984 with a factory video card. I want to upgrade my video card but read that there are no expansion slots (PCI-e) to do this. Does this mean i need to buy a new computer to play video...

A video card can use AGP, PCI, and PCI-E slots. If it is a older model it should have either AGP or PCI ( Mainly AGP ). Many video cards are still available for these slots.
If you want to play the top games of these day though, most of the time these slots will not work games like this. They COULD work, but the best cards of today is PCI-E. Good luck and do not forget to rate :)

Contrast sometimes comes on for short time.. Other times comes on flashing on and off.

Hi,

First update your video drivers. If that doesn't help then you may need to upgrade your video card(new video card). With the model number you can find the specs of your computer and see what slot available you have to upgrade: can be AGP, PCI express, etc

Installing an mic geforce fx5200 128mb pci-e card on my emachines t3408, and it seems that the pci slots on my computer are reversed from the pins on the card. please help!

It seems to me that your computer has an AGP slot which is a much older type of interface. AGP is much older and they no longer use them.

From the model you posted, you have 1 AGP video card slot and 2 PCI expansion slots. there are some but very few companies that do make cards for PCI that will be much better than an emachine onboard video.

But your computer will not support PIC-E

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy PCI not regognized, No IRQ = NA

From the creative site

"Try the card in different slots
  • if you have an AGP card in the PC, try the PCI card in a non adjacent slot
  • assign as many IRQs as possible to PCI/PnP devices in the BIOS (consult your motherboard manual or contact your motherboard manufacturer/PC vendor for instructions)"

Nvidia graphics card won't fit in asus ncch-dl motherboard

The NCCH-DL has the following slots:

1 - AGP-Pro 8x
(you can use regular AGP cards in here as well as long as you have the little plastic thing that comes with the mobo... you may even be able to without it)

2 - PCI-X

This is NOT PCI-E.

You CAN use regular PCI cards in a PCI-X slot IF the company that manufactured the card left the space between the little metal contacts... unfortunately, many PCI cards are made with the space filled in with useless plastic... I've heard you can cut the little space yourself and it'll work fine... I don't know why it wouldn't but be careful, and of course do at your own risk.

I currently use a regular PCI network card in this slot because the onboard LAN port only has Win64 bit drivers on the web site and it works just fine.

A PCI-E card will NOT work in this slot.

Generally speaking the PCI-X cards you are going to find are riser cards, network cards, firewire cards, and controler cards.

2 - Regular PCI Slots.

I think you know what PCI is.

PCI socket on 4 yr old emachine

Here are the specs to your machine:
http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=D-Series&model=D2685
click the specs tab. It seems you have only PCI slots in thos machine, so you cannot use an AGP card (the other type you may have seen). Video cards are clearly marked PCI or AGP.
Does this machine not have a built in video port already? Or do you just want to upgrade?

GeForce4 MX 420 Video Card

First question: Are you sure you have a PCI card?
there are several points here:
Make sure you have the monitor connected to the correct output on your computer. (In this case to the output of the graphics card, not to your onboard output)
If you have a PCI card set bios to PCI
Setting it to AGP means the computer is looking for a graphics card in you AGP-slot on you motherboard.

I cannot help thinking, that you actually have a AGP card in a AGP slot and that you computer is not working on onboard, but on AGP. But you can check which graphics device is used, in display properties (right-click Desktop, Properties, Settings)

Please post some feedback
