Question about Mitsubishi WD-52525 52" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Wd-52525 I just completed the cap replacement procedure on my dead 52525. Two different boards had one dead cap that I could see. Would not turn on and I had no lights on the front at all. The only thing I could see and hear was the power supply fan running up and down in speed and could here the power supply buzzing up and down in time with the fan. No difference after changing the caps in both boards.

I do not wish to rain on what you are trying: power board, DM and FMT boards all have problems. All caps will not read open, some will be off value.

There is a program you should look into, So many people had these problems that Mitsubishi has offered to authorized service centers a Chassis replacement which contains all three boards and the entire signal side of the set.

Wholesale is just over 200. Most shops will get 4-6 hundred parts and labor but you can bargain.

DM and FMT boards have over 40 surface mounted caps and unless you have a very good cap checker all you have to do is miss one bad one and nothing.

DM and FMT boards communicate to each other and to be honest these sets started falling apart less than 3 years after sold.

Let me know if this helps you.

If you have questions I am here to help.

Listen my friend, I worked on a lot of the sets exactly like yours, at first Mitsubishi would sell individual boards and later as so many went bad they had to be sent in for rebuild, now they due to the threats of class action suits came up with the chassis replacement.

You have a couple of choices, First 200 is what it wholesales for to a Mitsubishi authorized service center.

Call Mitsubishi and see if it is available directly or if you have to have a dealer do it.

Second choice is there is a major company, been around over 40 years called PTS ELECTRONICS, meant precision tuner service, in the beginning they just rebuilt/repaired TV tuners but eventually were repairing/rebuilding all kinds of circuit boards.

They are on the Web and may or may not be up to this set. Shop I work for has sent entire RCA chassis's to them for repair.

From what I hear in our office usual marked up cost to replace the chassis is 4-6 hundred---pretty simple job if you are able to get a chassis on your own---40 minutes top for install.

Chassis is sold on rebuild basis and usually either have to send old one in first or return it for core exchange as part of the process.

Please take some advice from someone who works in a shop that does warranty work, both MFR and extended: You get a flatscreen of any brand or kind get as long a warranty as you can--extended.

85% of these sets that fail do so in the first 2 years--I suggest 3 year overall warranty.

If all my help was good rate my solution and effort as very helpful.

Timer light constantly flashing and tv does not turn on

You have V-26 chassis type of the TV. Mitsubishi had recall on these models but it's already expired. Repair out of the pocket will cost you not less than $700, chassis have to be sent to Mitsubishi for complete rebuild procedure (involves 5 PCB boards and many, many components to be replaced). In your case reboot sequence does not comes to completion because of bad capacitors in DMD and/or power supply boards.
I would suggest cut your losses and invest in new TV.

you didnt mention which two boards you replaced the caps on however each board in the chassis has the same capacitor issue. Sounds like you need either of the four V26 Repair kits. The FMT repair kit, The signal Repair kit, The Terminal 1 or the terminal 2 repair kit

Getting to the chassis of mitsubishi wd-52525

This is not something that you should attempt on your own. There are dozens of capacitors on several different circuit boards that will need replacement. Furthermore, just the disassembly process is quite complicated and time consuming, not to mention locating all the bad caps and then the re-installation process afterwards.

Mitsubishi will rebuild this chassis at their facility. Contact them so they can locate a company in your area that can handle this for you. Be aware though that this can cost $600-$700 or more between parts and labor. Perhaps someone at Mitsubishi will help pay for this repair.

Blinking Problem
replace DM

Picture of bad caps

The DM board is the one with the digital connectors on the back panel. If you already have it appart, you may as well check the caps on all of the boards. The caps that go bad are typically Jamicon brand caps in 1000 uF and 330 uF values. There are also a couple of 3300 uF caps in the PS that cause problems.
