Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

I am trying to connect a Dell Laptop (Windows XP) to a Brother MFC 640 CW printer that is wirelessly connected to a Linksys router. The printer is authenticated to the router (or at least is says that it is). However, I cannot connect to the printer through the router. Any advice?

    Specifically, an unwritten step 16.

It should probably start something like:

In Microsoft Windows XP, Open Control Panel.

Open Printers. Select "Printers and Faxes"

    Select Add Printer:

It is the rest that is not working. I have the IP address (192.168.1.101) of the printer and the default node name (BRW_757210).

But none of the available options can connect me to the printer.

I am trying to connect a Dell Laptop (Windows XP)
to a Brother MFC 640 CW printer that is wirelessly
    connected to a Linksys router.
The printer is authenticated to the router
(or at least is says that it is).
However, I cannot connect to the printer through
    the router.
I have tried the following solution: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC...

However, it says nothing about getting the laptop to find the printer that is now configured to the router.
I have installed the factory drivers and been through all thinkable installation routes through the install wizard.
Except for those requiring a direct cable connection (the instructions there are vague as to whether the laptop and/or printer need to be hard cable connected to each other).

The idea it should have been much easier if the printer was connected to one of the computers connected to the router ..and from faxes and printers you should choose the printer amd right click on it ..give it a name and select the properties to be shared..
after that all you had to do is to search for a printer from the faxes and printers..and when it find it ..send the print job to it ..
but here is about the same ...if all is installed..(try to install the driver in the laptop to ..just in case) ..than go to faxes and printers..choose network printer ..and if it finds it ..just select it and print ..

if all is connected well all you have to do ..is go to Start ...click on printer and faxes from the start menu ..than click add printer ...A wizard will get on ..and you have to select a network printer ..and after that let it scan for printers...select the printer you want to use from the list ..and next ..
after you added the printer with success..all you have to do is to open what you want to print and click print ...from the file tools..it will send the job to the printer selected auto...

Refer to page 72 of 164 of the owners manual pdf for the exact steps on how to get the wireless printer setup on your computer here is a link to the manual:
    http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC...
Follow those steps and there should be no problem setting it up, make sure a firewall on your computer isn't stopping it from connecting.
    Thank you,

You have to make sure the following are used on your wireless settings on your router -

Wireless Network Security SSID (32 chr), WEP 64/128bit, WPA-PSK (TKIP/AES), WPA2-PSK (AES)

This means your SSID is less than 32 chars and your running either WEP, WPA. Or WPA2

Then on your printer make sure you have the wireless enabled and Just a good rule of thumb - When putting in a wireless printer just fudge with the wirless/TCP/IP settings on the printer until you can ping the printer from the PC. Do NOT bother running the software installs until you know you have a good ping from the printer as it will just bomb out.

do rate the solution plz

Networking a Printer on a wireless network

Deanna, if the mfc is not that old, take it back to the dealer and ask for changing it to a wireless printer (extension: CW). Do you really need the fax function? If not, try this printer: DCP 750CW. If yes, get the MFC 845 CW. The CN printer have to be connected directly to router or pc/laptop.
