Question about Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

1 Answer

I have a dyson dc07 that works fine in the vacuum position, but loses all suction in the hose when it's upright. I've checked every removable piece and everything is clear. I can't figure it out! Help!

Hi there, I have a suspicion that you are actually missing a piece called a u-bend. I have made a video to show you how to fault find this problem for the dyson dc07. If you need to get a new piece for your vacuum I would recommend vacuumspot or nelsonvacuums.
If this was a helpful post for you please take a moment to write a testimonial or give me a thumbs up.

Dyson vacuum wand doesn't work

The manual for the DC07 can be found here (
500 Error Dyson ) (The PDF tag is saying 'Error Dyson', but it still seems to work in getting to the document)
The most likely issue, under-documented for most Dyson uprights, is that the wand suction will *only* engage when the main handle is in the full upright position. In that position, the brush motor will also always stop spinning. I found this out after much wondering when I bought a DC07 at a flea market. Got a great deal when I plugged it in there and couldn't get the brush to spin, and the storage locker clear-out guy just wanted to get rid of it. That said, it's a common point of dodgy documentation for the upright Dysons, IMO.

It could also be line blockage. Remove and check the U-Bend piece, remove the hose line (un-clip at the bottom and pull off), stretch it, and see if there are obstructions. My fave way to deal with blocks in there is to use a pair of pliers to bend a small, blunt U-hook in a wire coat hanger that's been bent into 'marshmallow-roaster' long-skinny shape, then go in carefully from the ends and see if you can hook stuff and pull it out. Some crumpled paper can be amazingly effective at tenaciously holding to the walls. Be careful to look through the stretched hose wall when doing this to make sure you don't hook the hose wall and tear it.

Good Luck!

I've bought a dyson dc07 upright vacuum and need to know how to get suction through the hose as opposed to the main machine.

Hi there,

When the cleaner is standing in the upright position, it's engineered to divert suction automatically from the cleaner head to the hose. The correct way to use the hose, wand and dusting tools is shown in the user guide:

http://media.dyson.com/downloads/us/floorcare/manuals/dc07_opmanual_usa.pdf

If there doesn't seem to be any suction coming through the hose when the cleaner is standing upright, you may need to check the machine for blockages. The easiest way to do this is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=4&product=DC07-SY-HEPA_US

It's also a good idea to give the filter a wash, as demonstrated in the video below. Under normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months. Use cold water without any detergents, and always make sure the filter is totally dry before replacing it - this may take up to 24 hours.

By clearing any obstructions and washing the filter, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've tried this and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you recommend the best course of action.

Kind regards,

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having a problem with your DC07. If you have suction through the cleaner head but not through the wand, it sounds as though you have a blockage. Although you say you've already checked for these, you may find it helpful to follow our simple step-by-step guide to make sure you haven't missed anything:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=4&product=DC07-SY-HEPA_US

If you wish to order a new manual, you can do so from www.dyson.com - but in the meantime, here's an online copy:

If you need any further help, please get in touch with us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to provide the assistance you need.

I have a dyson 07. Vacuum works fine, great suction using the hose. How do I switch to using the carpet vacuum. (I lost my instruction book) Thanks

If this unit has a suction hose built in to the handle, the carpet vacuum should start working after you return the handle hose to the proper position.

Dyson suction loss

make sure the filters in the bottom are clean, then remove the canister and you will need to clean it thouroughly, pay close attention to the upper section inside where the "cones" come togetheri have read that they are prone to clog up here and lose suction, google dyson suction loss or how to clean a dyson ect...pay attention to getting the rod that releases the bottom to dump back in the correct place or it will not work right. a few write ups tell about this!

You probably have a blockage somewhere in the hose or in the base where the hose goes in. Remove the plastic tube at the base of the hose by simply unclicking it and remove the obstruction.

Take off the brush cover and check that the suction orifice is clear. Also check the rubber flaps at the bottom of the hose/handle holder is correctly positioned.
