Question about Canon PowerShot S200 / IXUS 178 Digital Camera

Canon powershot S2oo Digital camera

When I take photos you cannot see the image of what you want to take. The camera shows a grey or black image. Not image.Help??

Never had any issues before.

    you can view all of the pictures perfectly fine, but when you try and take a picture, you cant see the image. it shows a black screen.

It wont focus and the photo is blurred


If the camera is showing a black or distorted screen when set to photo, and photos that are taken with the black screen also show up black or distorted, then this would likely be a CCD imager failure, a common occurrence for your model camera.

Hi, my powershot S60 auto setting will only take movie images no still pic's. I've reset to manuf. settings but still no change. Any ideas whats wrong & how do I fix it?


What do you mean by "no still pics"? What exactly is happening? If the camera is showing a black or distorted screen when set to photo, and photos that are taken with the black screen also show up black or distorted, then this would likely be a CCD imager failure, a common occurrence for your model camera.

Photo has stripes

If your Canon A85 shows similar/ like to below image then its ccd imager chip failure problem and ccd imager will be replaced.
Canon offers free of cost ccd imager replacement for A85 camera.

It is known problem of CCD Imager Sensor in Canon A70 camera and this part will be replaced.

By the way, don't tell Canon that you dropped the camera. Sounds like the CCD imager was about to go bad anyway, and the drop just accelerated this.
