Question about Amana ARB220RCW Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Here’s my problem The top of our Amana ARB220RCW is getting warmer while our freezer on the bottom is working fine. I have cleaned out all the dust very thoroughly from the back and underneath, but the refrigerator on top still isn’t cooling well. I took the plastic cover off the thermostat adjustment in the refrigerator part on the top and noticed that plastic “band” that went to the back around that white temperature adjustment thingy with teeth had snapped so that even though I would turn the temperature adjustment, it wasn’t turning in the back. I just figured that was the problem and cut that broken plastic adjustment band off and reached back and adjusted it by hand for a week or so but no matter which way I turn it, it didn’t seem to make it much colder. That thing that I reach back and turn with the white teeth for the band on top seems a little rusty. It has a metal coil/spring to the side of it. I really don’t have that much ice buildup in the bottom freezer. Just a little frost around the temperature adjustment. Tired of our milk going bad. I am pretty good at fixing things, but this would be my first attempt at fixing the fridge. I am confident I can do it if I know what to change or try though. Any advice on what to try and change would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Chad

The thing with the spring looking thing is the thermostat. The metal tube is filled with gas so don't kink it or it is no good. From the sound of things it may already be bad. To check it unplug the frig and connect the two wires on the back of the t-stat together. Now plug it back in. If it starts to work you have a bad t-stat.

Our Amana refridgerator does not get cool but the freezer works.

I would think that the slide from the freezer to the fridge is frozen over. You will need to check the top of the fridge to see where the air should be coming in from and see if it is clear or not. If the freezer is working then there is no reason for the fridge not to work also, has to be an air flow problem. Look for ice build up blocking the air.

Amana model arb220zcw is not cooling. Freezer and

Hi,

Your problem could be one of two issues.

- The relay part number 12555902. This is a package that plugs directly onto the compressor, it is an easy repair.

- If the relay does solve the problem the issue is the compressor itself. This repair is major and usually will cost around $500.00 and will need to be done by a professional

Amana bottom freezer-

Your model does not have an auto damper so the most likely cause is the themostat is out of calibration or the control vent from freezer is open all the way. Try adjusting to warmer temps and see if compressor will run less. If the only action the thermostat will do is turn off then for sure the thermostat. If the compressor continues to run at warmer tempertures the thermostat wil need replaced. If the dammper vent is stuck open or broken will allow the colder heavy air to settle to bottom section. Cleaned behind and under the frig and now it won't work

Don't know if this a solution or not. We must have moved something or jarred something when we vacuumed inside the back. After we moved it out again, took the grill off the bottom in the front, cleaned it and put it back on, everthing seemed to work OK. We went to work that morning and when I got home in the afternoon, the freezer and fridge were both working fine.

Water from core is getting into my freezer

Right, the drip tray on the upper coil section has a blockage (possibly mold) that prevents the defrost condensate from reaching the evaporator pan that should be at the bottom of the fridge. Those lines are usually accessed from the back of the fridge.
