I can try, what is the exact model number, usually a 10 digit number. what is wrong with it and I will try and find a breakdown and see if parts still available.

How do I get the wheels to pop back out after changing the sanding belt on my old craftsman belt sander #31511720 model?

The tracking adjuster will tilt one wheel in so's you can start putting the belt on. After it gets about halfway, you will need to adjust that the other way and just bump the switch a bit a few times as you adjust and it'll work its way back on.

I have an old 3 x 21 inch belt sander. I put on a new belt, but the belt tightening device is locked in the "open" position. How do I unlock it so it tightens the belt?

I have that same sander. Know what you mean. I usually end up using a hammer to trip the roller and get it to release by hitting the side(end) of the roller with the hammer. Good luck.

I have and OLD bench 1

The local hardware store has brushes in all different sizes in a box, next to the switches, fuses, plugs, cords, tool type stuff. They are standard sizes, should be able to find them no problem. Hope this helps.

I have an old craftsman belt sander that needs oil because the engine has started smoking. I bought the right oil, but can't figure out where to put it in. Help?

Many belt sanders have sealed bearings that are packed with grease at the factory. They require no further lubrication. Sleeve bearings should be lubricated with 30 weight oil or an equivalent after each 10 hours of use.

Only about 2 to 3 drops of oil should be applied to each sleeve bearing. Avoid using too much oil. It can get on the work piece or on the belt and the belt will slip.

The Belt of my craftsman 3x21 sander slowly moves off track.

There is a leveling (screw/knob) on the side of the belt sander. Turn it up and the belt will drift in one direction. Turn it downward and the belt will drift in the opposite direction. play with this leveling screw/knob until you reach a good balance and the belt will stop drifting.

How do I release the lock on my Craftsman belt sander to lighten the belt. It's an old Model # 315.1172

I checked Searspartsdirect.com for that model number and they listed that number, but with an extra 0 at the right end. I couldn't find a belt release lever illustrated anywhere like that on my old Craftsman belt sander. On mine, you just flipped the lever either forward or back to release and tighten the belt. (still works great) There is a spring that pushes the front roller assembly forward when the lever is operated.

Craftsman 3x21 plastic front roller needs replacing

Do you know anyone with a metal lathe or that works in a machine shop? If you do ask them if they can make the rollers for you out of metal. Or else find a machine shop and ask them to make you new rollers.
