Question about Whirlpool LTE5243D Top Load Stacked Washer/Dryer

1 Answer

I have a whirlpool thin twin lte5243d that will not spin. When it gets to the spin cycle it will drain but nothing else. When I remove the motor and turn the coupler manually it will spin counter clockwise but not clockwise. Just wanted to get an idea of what causes this before I start pulling it apart further. Any help would be appreciated.

The motor is reversible. One direction it washes. The other direction she pumps and she spins. When it goes into spin the spin pawl is tucked in neat as a pin under the main drive gear by latch and a trip lever. The timer has a momentary pause built into it after the pump has had time to remove the water from the drum. Centrifugal force activates the neutral package and shift the spin pawl out wards. Their are 3 areas under the main drive gear that the spin pawl can grab onto called Bosses. Hay I ain't makin this up. When the spin pawl catches a boss it locks into place and brangs that puppy to life. Well what goes wrong you may ask? Over time the spin pawl gets smashed down and won't catch a boss. Their will be no spin action. If the clutch is good,no sign of oil leaking out any seals and the main drive gear has all it's splines(yes I have seen it get smooth as a baby's bvtt) Then I suspect you need to remove the tranny, remove the clutch. Put that tranny in a vice. Remove the cover and use snap ring pliers to remove the main drive gear retainer. Gently lift up the main drive gear and inspect the spin pawl. If it is bad it will look like it has been smashed down which it has. LOL

My Thin Twin stackable washer & dryer Model # LTE5243DQ3 is having problems w/the washer spin cycle. I'm thinking I may just need a new timer because it goes through all the cycles except the spin...

Before wasting money on a timer that wont be returnable once it is removed from the packaging please respond to me and tell me does the washer do everything including draining, and the only thing it will do not do is spin
or will it wash but not drain and spin
their are 2 posibilities based on your response and neither is the timer

Whirlpool thin twin stacked, won't agitate or spin

whirlpool washers have a drive coupling in between the motor and the transmission to replace this remove the top and disconnect the lid switch set it aside remove the front panel then remove the 2 clips that hold the pump on then push it out of the way then remove the 2 screws that hold the motor clamps on and then remove the upper and lower motor clamps remove the motor then replace the three piece "motor coupling" one piece goes on the motor the other three pronged plastic piece goes on the transmission and the rubber isolator goes between them and now just put every thing back together

Washer stops in mid cycle

This is probably normal. There is a natural pause between agitating and draining, and again between draining and spinning. Hope this helps!

You need to check the suspension of the washer, it could be pads, suspension springs, or even the shocks.

How can I fix my whirlpool thin twin washer?

It almost sounds like your motor is kicking out on overload. The fact that it starts agitating after the fill can rule out the pressure switch. You have installed a new timer so we should be able to rule that out. It's possible that your pump is binding, which is attached directly to your motor and causing it to overheat. To tell for sure you would have to check the motor to see if it's getting power when it cuts out. Check your terminal block where the power cord comes in to see if all connections are secure. Other possibilities could be the clutch and brake assy. With out being there too see the problem, this is where I would start.
