Hi Sherry!
Try the following:
1) Close any browser windows and any open Adobe software.
2) Open My Computer (or Computer - on Windows Vista/7) and navigate to:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader
and rename the "plug_ins" folder to something like "plug_ins_old".
3) Try doing what you did before and see if the problem's gone...

In case the problem persists, please contact me for further assistance!

Best regards,
Pelu.

There's a discussion of this problem on Adobe's forum at
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/771034.
Maybe some of the ideas there will help.

Have you tried Foxit Reader? It's for .pdf files and I've had very good luck with it. Download it for free:

What must I do if when I open adobe reader it say me: invalid plugin detected. Adobe reader will quit. ????

tried up-issues (Adobe Reader 8.1.2+) and got the same error "invalid plugin detected. Adobe Reader will quit".

I fixed this error by following laborious steps described in the Adobe Technical Support Home.
Not sure if this helps you guys; but worth a try. Developers should say if this the real cause.

You can find these in the "plug-ins" folder. [C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\plug_ins]

"HAEvents32.api" is the main culprit. Along that, I removed "Helmant32.api" and "Helmbkmk32.api".
Without deleting these two, an error or two might come but still PDF will work. I tried all these combinations.

Note: Delete these files if present anywhere else in the system else they recreate themselves.

Thanks every one.

Whenever I try to open a pdf file it says I have an invalid plugin

Hi,

Assuming you actually have Adobe Reader (?), uninstall it using the "Programs and Features" control panel. Then download the latest version (9.4) of Adobe Reader:

USA - http://get.adobe.com/reader/
UK - http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/

Hope this helps.

Go to Control Panel - Add Remove programs and remove Acrobat Reader. Then reboot your computer and open Internet Explorer and Google search the latest version of Acrobat Reader (version 9), then download and install it.

Invalid plugin detected. Adobe Reader will quit - I am working on windows 7 and have just started to have problems with my adobe reader in that it comes us with an invalid plug in detected adobe will quit...

The Adobe install was corrupted. Uninstall it, find and manually delete all Adobe Reader folders that are still on your pc, run a system cleaner like CCleaner then finally reinstall the Reader using the latest installer you can find here

Help me please can not download the Adobe reader 9 keeps disappearing after I click on install

What browser are you using? In Firefox when I clicked on the Adobe reader icon at adobe.com a plugin box opened and the install was very fast. There was also a link that downloaded the install file. Download an earlier version of adobe from oldapps.com and let the program update sequentially until you get upto version 9.
