First off if you haven't already try and uninstall and reinstall your drivers you can download the latest drivers from hp at this link just click your operating system in the list:

If the problem persists then it may be a mechanical problem with the scanner and most likely your better off replacing the printer rather then paying for repair. If you need further assistance please let me know.
