I have two solutions for this problem. the first one is to change the bios settings. the solution is here:
but for some laptops this setting is not available. so you can try another solution i.e. integrate the SATA drivers in your windows XP cd. this solution is here: http://techrena.blogspot.com/2009/01/integrate-your-own-drivers-or.html
