On my Acer Aspire 5534, up above the keys there are 2 buttons that are side by side. one is to turn the wireless off and on and the other one is to turn the mouse pad off and on.

[1] make sure the switch for you wireless network is turned on, and I think it is either located between the screen joints and the keyboard, or right on the side of the computer [the side that always faces you when the computer is on the laps]. When the links are listed, select the one you wish yo connect to and click 'connect'. if it needs authentication, you'll have to provide a network key

I suspect that you just need to slide the switch over and release to turn the light on for WiFi and also to turn the WiFi capability on.
