From the File menu, choose Page Setup, then divide page, and choose which way you want your document laid out. (You can also do this from Print Preview, but recommend Page Setup in the usual case.)

I have a grey/black line all the way down the right hand side of the page

Run a half test.
Put paper in the manual feed tray.
Print something, anything
When the paper is 1/2 way into the printer, open the cover.
Pull out the toner cartridge. Look down at the paper.
Does it have a black line on the right side?
If yes, replace the cartridge. If no, replace the fuser.

Have put in three HP factory new cartridges - same thing happens each time - first 3 pages are GREAT - PERFECT - and then subsequent pages are light, looks exactly like I need a new toner

Hi there !

Have you shake your new toner cartridge before your put it is because maybe you purchase old stock that makes them stick together. If not do it to distribute evenly the toner.

Magneta ink isnt working

Simply a blocked head.

Make sure you've removed the yellow tear-off strip on the cartridge otherwise ink can't flow into the print head.

Carry out 4 head cleans but cancel the nozzle check pattern by clicking [Finish] after each clean until the 4 cleans are done then allow the nozzle check pattern, it should be now be perfect or at least improved. If not perfect do it again as above.

Any further problems, use our help pages on our website linked from the Epson page and various others: http://www.the-inkstore.co.uk/frame/pages/epson.htm

If you don't know how to clean the heads or prime the heads, again refer to our website on the link above, there'll be step by step guides with pictures to help.

I hope this helps.

Fax machine having difficulty to send and receive multi -pages

it is possible that the memory is corrupted, Or the ECM (Error Correction Mode) is not enabled,

What happens when None go through, is there a jam? or does it just drop the call.
Maybe setting the machine to print a Confirmation page will help to isolate the problem?

could also be the Phone line, is this a direct line?
What happens when you move the machine to another phone line.

Do this happen when you try to print?

Here are the basic specs of the machine?
The Transmission rate 3 pages per minute,

64MB of memory

(I have seen faxes bog the memory because of compression and dpi, I dont think this is the problem here)
Available Compression MH, MR, MMR,
DPI Modes :200X100 dpi, 200X200 dpi, 300X300 dpi

This is the User Manual for this machine..

Repeating defects appearing on every 3rd page

That most likely is on the transfer belt assembly, You can look at that belt and see if the defect is a mark that may be cleanable or actual damage to the transfer belt, which would require replacing the transfer belt.

Documents scanned as 256 grey scale/TIFF show up as black pages.

Grey as you know is different shades of black. Uncompressed TIF can store this information. Compressed TIFF is not designed for this. Compressed TIFF is for blck & white only. Try JPG option. JPG can compress Color & Grey. For pure black & white chose TIFF compression.
