Question about Car Audio & Video

3 Answers

Hi, I have a Pioneer head unit (AVH-P5900DVD), which was installed in another car, and I had a 6 disc CD changer unit + ipod + bluetooth unit connected to it. All worked perfectly. All fo this was removed from my old car, and installed in my new car, however a couple of things are not working: - 1) iPod - I am getting an on screen message "Error 11". I have read the manual, and have tried disconnecting the iPod and reconnecting, but it still doesn't work. It is also not charging the iPod. However, the head unit does register when the ipod is connected / disconnected. 2) CD Multi-changer. This has been fitted in my boot + links to the head unit via the bluetooth unit. It is getting power + I can see the CD titles on the screen + it appears that they are playing ok, however, there is no sound at all. In the manaual, I noticed that the head unit can be reset, in order to return it to factor settings. I have tried this and the above two problems are un-resolved. If you can provide any advice it would be appreciated. Thanks Ralph

Thanks, my old car was written off (I had an audio electrician remove the stereo before the car was recovered by the insurance company), and another audio electrician fitted my stereo, blue tooth unit CD changer in my new car. So, I cant rewire it back into the old car. I'm not sure what ohms the speakers are, but the radio DVD play fine (with audio), so it seems like the speakers are wired correctly

I am bringing the car back to the audio electrician on Thursday to have the mic fitted for the blue tooth unit a new reverse parking camera. I told him about the iPod CD Changer problems and he wasn't sure what was causing it, and suggested there is a problem with the head unit. It worked fine last week, so I'm sure its still fine. As he didn't know, I cant find a solution in the installation user guide FAQ's on the Pioneer site, I thought I'd try here. Perhaps its the settings on the head unit,

Hi, thanks for your comments. I have just reset the blue tooth unit head unit, and gone through the menus again. In addition, I fitted the mic to the blue tooth unit. I managed to connect my iPhone to the head unit via blue tooth it seems to function correctly (on the screen), however, there is no sound at all (looks like the same problem as the CD changer). The iPod is working fine (when disconnected), however, it wont connect to the head unit (Error 11).

The car is going back to the audio electrician on Tuesday, so I will ask him to remove the head unit, ensure all connections are fitted correctly, then refit it. As the CD changer mic are connected to the head unit via the blue tooth unit, perhaps the 'muting' problem is due to a power issue with the blue tooth unit. Does that need a direct power feed, or does it take power from the head unit? Thanks.

Hi, I had the stereo removed and re-installed and thankfully it must have been down to loose connections. The DVD, Multi-CD, Telephone, Radio all work properly now.

Although, my iPod is still getting "Error 11". I thought this was down to the software on the iPod, and after checking, it is version 1.2.1., which is correct and compatible with the pioneer head unit. I'll check the connction again.

    Thanks

Hello Ralph,

1. The iPod: If you are getting the 'error 11' message and the iPod is not charging then try checking the connections allover again to your head unit. Also i would like to know if the car is turned ON.

2. CD Changer: Your not hearing audio from the speakers, try connecting the wires allover again.

Best regards

First of all reset your Ipod before you connect it to the head unit. If this wont worrk please ccheck if there are any errors on it by connecting to your PC and scanning. Copy off all folders from ipod to a folder , format and then reinstall the best fiels back again...to avoid any chance of softwarre/malware errors.

Secondly if the CD is reading then you must check if the connection is correct. Since you had resetted the unit and the bluetooth link is correct as the titles are displayed, it is important that themenu be gone through once again, If set to factory default, the software should be reset but if the fault returns please checck once again the head unit connections, if the possible muting for cell phone is active.,diabling the sound.
If the tracks are shown and time moves, the it is a mute but if not then it can be a set up errror.
Go back again,recheck wiring ground.
Please check the head unit. open and push back all connectors, see if any link is loose.Tighten.
Hope this works.

Hello Ralph, Hi since you mention that the radio worked perfectly on the old car, then the trouble may be on the proper installation of the radio, wiring of the speakers, check the impedance of your speakers, did you use the old speakers or did you use a new one? does the speakers have 4 or 8 ohms? input wires, are they checked and in good condition? and the voltage input of the radio. I suggest you rewire it back to the old car and see if the trouble reappears. If not the above mention needs to be checked.

Panasonic CD Changer with Pioneer reciever

Panasonic CD changers have a specific plug in that will not work with the Pioneer head unit. The Pioneer uses the IP-BUS plug. You will also not be able to convert the unit to work because the data between the two cannot be controlled and you won't have the ability to use the units together.

Ipod will not play video to my head unit AVH P5900DVD

ok for the first post with the ipod not showing video .. make sure that you have the correct cable running from behind the deck to the ipod .. (iPod Direct Control (CD-I200 Required) once you have that connected you need to go to the video settings of your ipod and turn on the video out .. by default its offf... also remember with movies on your ipod .. that has to be manually selected from the ipod itself .. you cant control the videos from the pioneer unit.. only the audio/music on your ipod can be selected from the pioneer unit..

Avh-p5900dvd... I keep getting error -02-9e and it wont play cd,s or dvd,s can you help.

Owner's manual doesn't really say what the -02-9e error code means other than a disc error. They do recommend resetting the unit as a possible solution:
  1. Turn the ignition off.
  2. Remove the faceplate.
  3. On the right side of the front of the head unit (with the faceplate removed), press the reset button with a ball point pen.
You may have to call Pioneer directly to find out what the -02-9e code means specifically. 1-800-421-1404
