Below your laptop there is a small cover hold in place by some little screws, remove the screws and the cover, insert the Wireless card, then connect the laptop antenna and put the cover again.
Read the instruction manual of your laptop for more information or post the make/model for more extensive instructions from FixYa experts.

Connection of D-Link 02.11g/2.4GHz Wireless Router

Connection can either be wired, or wireless.

If wired, connect a cable from one of the ports of the new PC to one of the ports on the back of the router.

If wireless, you will need a wireless card for the new PC. Install the card, set up security, and you will be connected.

Going from USB to PC card

It may not be compatible with either software version or it's possible the version of "driver installer" is only compatible with the USB, If you'd go into device manager on your PC and make sure you see drivers for the modem, network adapter, ports and usbs for the 860 you should be able to set up a dial up connection. This will help you do that. https://www.wireless.att.com/support/tutorials.do?tutorialPage=page2&universe=att&deviceId=8330&tutorialsCategory=Connection+Methods You also may want to take a look at this article https://www.wireless.att.com/support/tutorials.do?tutorialPage=page2&universe=att&deviceId=8330&tutorialsCategory=Getting+Started&tutorialId=214910

Check for the pins inside the integrated NIC to check if the pins are bent / disfigured. Does not look like the additional card is making any different, looks more like a moving NIC cable is makin the difference.
