Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Whirlpool LGQ 8000JG3 gas dryer. If I mess with the timer (the large knob on the left) it would start but only intermittently and now won't start at all. I hear some slight noise (a slight hum) but it won't run. The drum moves to the left freely but not real easily

I don't understand you logic. I reported it goes on intermittently. It goes on at one point on the timer and no other. Then it didn't go on at all. Seems to me if it were the motor it would not run at all. I smell nothing that resembles a burned out motor.
the on off switch works. when it ran intermittently it ran strong. It did not run as though the motor was warn out or weak.

Most likely you need a new motor, you should open it or have someone else open it and see if it smells burnt for one. Tell me what you find when you open it. Make sure to unplug it first and the outer panel should just be held on by some screws.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I would be glad to help.

Thanks

ok, by the sounds of your first post, it sounded like it wouldn't run at all or if it did, not correctly,

Have you been seeing a lot of lint coming out of the dryer? Try cleaning the vent exhaust for one and checking the thermal fuse

Another thing to check is the timer mechanism behind the knob inside the console panel. It is not as common of a failure as most of the other possibilities but does occasionally happen.

check out this link and get back to me since I believe that this is your problem, and this website is always great with diagrams and explanations.

Whirlpool Ultimate Care II gas dryer won't turn off.

Dryer Won't Stop Running
  • Ultimate Car II Dryers are fitted with a mechanical timer that sends an impulse to the control circuit board to stop running once the set amount of drying time has elapsed. This is because, should an electronic timer fail, this would necessitate the replacement of the entire circuit board. Confirm that the mechanical timer is indeed broken by opening the dryer's door. If the dryer stops, the circuit board is working fine and is not the problem. Simply slide off the protective faceplate of the dryer, unscrew the control board beneath, and flip it over. Connected to the back of the timer's knob should be a small round device with two wires running to the circuit board within the body of the dryer. Unscrew this device from the back of the knob and disconnect the wires. A replacement timer costs a few dollars and should screw into place without trouble. Reconnect the wires and put the dryer back together. It should work fine now.

I have a Whirlpool gas dryer LGQ7030K..the dryer does not turn on when start button is pushed.

If you open your dryer and the inside light isn't on - double check your breakers.

Also make sure the timer knob is set properly to a setting with minutes left.

Gas dryer not maintaining heat. 70 Series Kenmore/Whirlpool 76722

Fuse is ok . Problem is the soils on the burner valve . If the dryer heats when started , the electricity goes thru the coils to open the valve . Once the coils get warm , 1 will open (short) until it cools back down . The coils can be replaced just by removing the front panel . Only 2 screws hold the coils in place . No turning off gas , dissasembling dryer .

Dryer won't run unless I put pressure on the cycle control knob after pressing Start

sounds like you need to replace your timer, or either unplug the machine, an open the head panel an see if any wires are loose in there, changing the timer is an easy job, you should have no problems doing it ......good luck!
