I actually talked to samsung and it is still under warranty so I am sending it back. It is a syncmaster 920 nw. This problem happened last week, i restarted the computer and it was working again. Now it seems to be more permanent. The screen does flash up for a split second here and there, but thats it.

I do not have a lot of time or resources available to me, so I'll be honest, I was kind of hoping for a quick fix here.

I don't know which monitor that you own, since you did not supply that information. So I will assume this is an LCD monitor. Typically problems are with the digital board or the backlight circuit board. If it is the digital board, the only reasonable way to repair it to find a replacement board.

To determine which board is bad, take a flashlight and shine it on the LCD. If you can see any kind of image, it means that the digital board is working and the problem is with the backlight.

I don't know if you are technical, what I mean is are you able to open monitor and check the components with a meter and know how to use a soldering iron. If this is beyond your ability, then I would advise you to take it to a repair shop and they should be able to fix it for you.

If you have the technical ability, then the problems with the backlight are usually the capacitors that fail and blow, fuses, transistors and the backlight itself that go bad.

Open the case, and find the the power supply board, it will be the one with the large capacitors. Look at the board for any burned or heat damaged parts. If none are found check the capacitors first. If any look bloated or have the tops of the capacitor blown open, then they should be replaced with the same capacity and at least the same working voltage as the damage one.

Fuses should be checked for continuity if the caps look good. If the caps and fuses are good, then check the transistors. Often the transistors fail by short out.

Let me know if you need any more detail on how to troubleshoot by leaving a comment. Also, if you supply the model number, it can help me be more specific about your situation. Hope this helps you.

Certainly, if the monitor is still under warranty, it best to send it back and have them look it over. Best of luck to you!

My husband's monitor is a Samsung LCD 19" and it

Does it have warranty? If so, you can contact your monitor provider to check it with their technical support personnel. If the unit is out of warranty, check if it has power or the power indicator is responding. If responding, try pressing the auto configure button.

Check if the monitor cable is OK. If you have spare working monitor, you can isolate the problem.

If the monitor has the problem, there is a deffective capacitor inside it or a portion that needs to be re-solder.

According to the manual, the frequency may be out of the range of the monitor. Adjust the frequency to the range needed by the monitor. Normally 60Hz will work fine.

The Problem may be due to the defective inverter unit inside the monitor. Dry to resolder if any dry joint on the inverter PCB or replace the inverter board.

Same problem - unplug both computer and monitor - hold power button for monitor for 15-30 seconds...then power it back on and then power on the computer. Seems from other sites there is a power issue with the monitor - this worked for me.

Green Flash power only on one computer

It sounds like the monitor functions properly and your computer functions properly, but the combination causes a problem. Try making sure the screen resolution on your main computer is set to an acceptable resolution for your monitor - AL1916. Try setting it low to 800x600 and move up from there until it doesn't work anymore. You can change the screen resolution from the Display Settings (right click on the desktop and select Display Settings) window.
