Question about Raymarine Rc435 Chartplotter

1 Answer

My Raymarine 435 is showing my boat in a position on the chart about 2nm from the correct position. I have tried to 'Fix' the boat to correct position but to no avail. Would appreciate some help. Thank you.

I have problems with my plotter Raymarine Rc 435 chart plotter. This plotter can not location my ship to do.What is problems?

Be sure there isn't any aluminum in close proximity to your GPS antenna, or that your antenna is not to close to other powerful electronics. Aluminium reflects electromagnetic signals and other electronics emit EM fields as well causing disruption of your GPS signal reaching your antenna.

I installed a Raymarine compass sensor in a GRP sailing boat underneath the chart table at least 50 cm away from metal and magnets. It is connected to a SP X-5 computer unit and a ST6002 autopilot...

If I were troubleshooting this, I'd manually adjust the orientation of the compass sensor until it matched the true heading. Once that was done, I'd move it side to side to ensure it's changing in the correct directions. If not, the unit could be upside down. Let me know how this turns out.

A65 unit does not indicate proper position. When alongside a buoy it shows the buoy ahead by about 50 feet. When the buoy is 50 ft behind the sail boat, the A65 shows it abeam. Even my handheld Garmin does...

You may be aware that the system is "detuned" for security reasons. With GPS, repeatability is the key. A bouy is NOT a stationary item, especially at low tide, I suggest that you test your accuracy with stationary objects. A map (chart) cannot know which way the tide is moving a bouy, only the approximate anchor location, the bouy floats and moves....

My boat is pointed in the wrong direction on my Raymarine C80 chartplotter?

I'm not sure where you would locate "reset to factory specifications". Look for it in the GPS menus (may be in the System) and reset, it is no big deal to reset a GPS, it will not hurt anything. I the GPS is set to back Track. To check this turn your boat around and follow the track on the lake chart. If you and your boat are now going in the same direction the GPS was set on Back Track.

With the charts page up, start by hitting the find ship softkey at the bottom of the screen. If that find the boat on the chart all is good.If not you need to check you have a GPS fix. Go to GPS screen and see you are seeing satalites.
If all is good when you hit find ship and the boat disappears again from chart while underway you will need to go into the chart setup menu and see if the screen amplifier is turned off. If off turn on.This is first place to start. Hope that helps

Hi Matt,

There is a feature in these chartplotters called "Plotter Mode" that is often misunderstood and causes the exact problem you describe.

Press menu.....chart setup.....and scroll to the bottom until you see Plotter Mode in the list of options. It should be set in the OFF position.

If you have more than one display networked onboard check the setting in each one invividually.

What Plotter Mode does is allows the chartplotter system to access range scales not supported on the chart. It is not normally used for map-based navigation but more so for chartless electronic plotting (it can display routes, waypoints and track-recorder breadcrumbs.) open-ocean cruising, or for ultra-precise GPS operations (like a precision anchor drop, finding a very specific location etc. When plotter mode is on you can zoom in to a very, very small working area. The indicator it is enable is the cross-hatch background on the screen, the lack of map information, and the NO CHART DATA watermark on the screen.
