Question about Toshiba Satellite Pro M15-S405 Notebook

1 Answer

Fan issue David, I am having the same problem with the fan. Did fix it? If yes, how did you get the key board off, do you really have to take out every skrew on the bottom of the laptop? Also where did you get another fan for the Toshiba Satellite Pro M15-S405. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ricko15@yahoo.com

Infrequently, the fan (noise comes from the back left corner near the fan port) gets very loud, as if the bearings are loose. I shut the computer off ASAP and turn it back on after a minute and it is quiet again. It may run quietly for a day or a week or two, but, the noise eventually returns. A repair shop is asking for the standard $89 initial fee plus parts and whatever else to fix. Hoping for a better solution. Also, the LCD has a couple of bad pixels with 1/4" to 1/2" diameter fuzzy areas. And, 1 of the 2 memory slots is bad. So, my ideal solution here might be to find a unit with a bad HD that someone wants to dump for a reasonable price. Anyway, the fan problem may force my hand at any moment, so, a fan replacement/solution is being considered. Thanks to all, ~~~^^^larry^^^~~~

    Been there, done that.

    Need to do it again!

Found the thread looking for another fan.

Yes you have to open it up pretty much all the way. I suggest a bunch of small labeled containers for the screws and pictures when you get into the layers under the keyboard to assist in reassemble.

It isn't easy but it is doable.

Here is a disassembly guide for your laptop:

Not every screw is required to be removed to take out the keyboard but to replace a fan you most likely will have to since the machine needs to be entirely opened up.

Gateway md2614u shut down

I would remove the heatsink and fan, clean the processor surfaces with methylated spirit or isopropanol, use new heatsink compound and that should fix your issue. Yes yes, heatsink pipe should get hot!

Toshiba M55-S139 Laptop randomly freezes without warning.

you have a diry fan try cleaning the fan motor and spray a slight amount of wd 40 on the cooling fan and it should take care of your problem, if not go buy a usb driven laptop fan and try that, it is heating up and is the fan for the cpu or the memory stick getting hot. the fan costs 15 dollars so it's worth it to make the computer work and it will keep it cooler anyway.

I have recently replaced the bezel and LCD cover of my Dell 1737 laptop. Upon turning ing it on, however, the fan spins very fast and of course is very loud. I was wondering if anyone may help me...

its normal for fan to turn really fast during start-up but if it stays that way means, your unit is very hot and the system is continuously trying to cool it down. open the bottom cover and clean the vent this might fix the issue apply thermal paste of high quality if you have some. it can greatly reduce temp up to 5 degree instantly. as to your question whether its fan or heatsink problem, i assume it is fan. heatsink is passive and less likely to have problem

My emachines D620 laptop turn on and 5 second turning the fan but no display

Hello,

This is an overheating issue. Get it serviced, you don't want to open your computer yourself (it might mess up). It's a fan problem.

2 possible solutions

1. Clean the fan
2. Replace the fan (inside the computer)- cheap

I hope this helps!

HP Pavilion dv1000 PC Notebook My PC shuts down automatically

This is a common problem for many laptops. Its shutdown because of over heating.msoufeer5_2.jpg
Each mobile processoe has a max temperature rating. when the temperature reches certain degree
the processor shuts itself down to prevent damaging the chip. The number 1 cause of heat related issue is dust bunnies.

Dust is a pretty good insulator and it will block your laptop's airflow when it build up over time. The easiest way clean it is to use a can of compressed air and it through the air flow event.

If you are handy you can also take out the key board and clean the inside. you can see the cooling
fan on most laptop once you removed the key board. In some case even the out side look clean but
if you take apart the fan assembly you will see tha ther's still dust collecting inside

Clean dust and try again

Fan Error message but the fan's working on another machine

One option would be to replace the motherboard. You can use one from T40 -T43 with your monitor. I bought one on Ebay for $90 which came with the board installed to the bottom plastic tray. I only had to install my monitor, memory, keyboard, hard drive, & plastic bezel and I had a good working unit for $90.

Overheating

Overheating is a big issue with Gateway. It mostly involves problems with the fan. When Gateway receives a warranty fan problem they replace it with a fan that is reconditioned or rebuilt (probably from another cutomer's unit like yours) and they don't seem to last long. To make sure it is a fan problem, which is the most common, Turn on the laptop and wait to see if the fan is turning on. It won't take long, processors get hot quick. The fan should turn on and run anywhere from 3 to 15 seconds then turn off. It should do this approx every 5 to 7 minutes in order to keep the processor cool. If it doesn't work at all, works seeming sporadically, or the processor gets really hot before the fan starts, then it's a fan problem, and a NEW fan should be purchased. If the fan works properly, then it could be that the fan and heat sink need to be cleaned internally due to dust build up.
