Hi, on most Dells a flashing amber light on the power button indicates a problem with the PSU or a short on the main power rail, if this is the case you should have 2 flashing lights as well, 1 & 3.
Hi, If this the light is solid amber in the front of the computer.Try doing the following steps
1. Disconnect the power cable from the back of the system tower. Press the power button on the tower 30 seconds. 2. Reconnect the power cable to the back of the system tower and power it back on.
If the amber light is on the monitor power button and the tower power button is off or blinking amber it could mean that it is a bad power supply.
If the blinking amber light is on the monitor, check the connection between it & the computer itself. Make sure the cable is not damaged & that it does not have any broken pins in the socket.
Is the light more amber or more green? If you push the button and it goes amber, then you probably have a bad power supply. Try getting another power supply to test. If that doesn't solve the problem, then you probably have a bad motherboard.
