Question about Hunter 20551 52" Vernazza Ceiling Fan

Open Question

I am reinstalling 3 way switch on hunter douglas fan. I had replaced it with a simple 2 way (on/off) and now wish to relinstall the 3 way to operate the fan on pull chain. "New" switch has raised letters by each wire leading from the switch. "L" (lights, I assume) and "1" and "2". And the wires go to a plasitic coupler that I don't know how to take apart. Seems to be a two little "clasps" that can be depressed but I don't want to force it apart. I could simply cut and tape (re)attached new wires together. It'll be in the box. Let me know the wire problem if you can. Thanks. *****

SOURCE: 3-speed switch replaced with hampton bay switch. Only low speed works.

The cause to the problem was replacing a HUNTER fan switch with a Hampton Bay switch. Before removing the old switch, I noted and marked the color and position of the 4 wires. I then duplicated the connections to the new switch.

But the wire positions of Hampton Bay vs Hunter are not identical, therefore 2 wires
were crossed.

The correct way is to note the color of the wires with the corresponding NUMBER
marked on the switches, then duplicate this on the new one.

Du-uh!

Hunter ceiling fan, replacing speed switch, what wire goes to the L, 1, 2, and 3?

I can only guess since I don't know what model or what color wires you have. Here's wiring for single stack switch on some Hunters;

L- black
1 - grey
2 - brown
3 - green
Hope this helps.

Try changing the frequencies in the receiver & transmitter. If that doesn't work, you probably need a new receiver.

3-speed fan switch broke on Hunter model 28072, cat. 300 fan. Found replacement switch at Lowes, but wiring colors are completely different from manual. What color wires go into L, 1, 2, 3 positions...

My Hunter fan uses a Zing-Ear ZE-268S6 switch. This is NOT a standard switch! It connects L to 2 AND 3 for medium speed. It is best to order the exact switch if possible. Hunter wants to sell you the entire bottom assembly (probably expensive). I found the exact switch online at:

http://www.kenselectronics.com/lists/switches.htm#Pull%20chain

for $6.80 plus $4.95 shipping. I bought an extra which didn't increase the shipping - worked great. Hunter ZE-268S6 ceiling fan connection colors: L=black; 3=green; 1=grey; 2=brown. If you need a different switch on their page, just click the Edit menu, then Find, type your part number in the box, and click Next.

Pull Chains Replacement

Replacements are available at Home Depot and Lowes. This is a regular 4-wire single-layer switch.

Mark the old wires, so you know which ports they go to in the switch (marked L, 1, 2, and 3) -- then remove the old wires by pressing a paper clip into the hole of each wire while pulling firmly on the wire. Then just push the wires into the new switch, into the marked holes.

I hope this helps! If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask!
