Question about Bionaire BSF1731RC Stand (Pedestal) Fan

1 Answer

Well, we loved our fan for a couple years, then it seemed to be starting slower and slower. Finally it wouldn't switch on at all. My husband found that spinning the blades, kinda "getting them going" like you would a propeller made it go, but then that worked less and less often and we're bummed and hot. :( Any suggestions how to make our fan "go" again???

Hi this is a very common problem with fans, now what has happened is that over time dust has got into the part that the fan blades spin on and this has dried up the grease that prevents the fan from stopping like it has done, using it like this will cause it to over heat and this will then cause the motor to short out and stop working all together.

now if it hasnt all ready shorted out then their is one thing you can try, make sure its not plugged in then you need to remove the cover that stops you touching the fan once this is removed you will be able to see how the fan comes off its drive, you need to take the fan off and give the part its spins on a good clean then get some grease or vaseline and give it a coating with this then put it back together this should then make your fan work unless the motor has all ready over heated.

you need to grease all the moving parts and then this will get the fan working again dont try switching it on whilst you have it in pieces make sure you put it all back together before switching it on, also check the fuse in the plug as this will blow if it has over heated.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

R Whitney,
actually, I'm not the sewing machine expert. My husband does sewing machine repairs. So, I had him read your problem and he said, that what your machine needs, is to be taken to a shop. They have
to clean all of the old oil off of it and reoil it. It's a service that every
machine needs at least once a year. It happens because of the dust and lint that gathers in the oil. It can't be helped. It just happens, but when you get it back it should run like a new machine. They'll oil it and readjust everything. You'll love the way it sews after they finish it.

2000 grand jeep cherokee limited 4.7 liter, v8, at first wouldn't start rplaced battery because dead and then replaced starter. ran ok for a couple days. last night started it and hard time with it...

Hi
Pop into to your local garage and have a diagnostic test carried out.
Listen to the advise given. It may save you lots of money, especially if you start the "guessing" game.
It does sound like a part may be blocked or failed though, but the sytem needs to be tested thoroughly first.
Good luck

2001 chevy cavilier, 180,000 miles on it. Drive the car for days and it's fine, then it looses power. Let it set for a while, and you might go another couple of miles. Let it set a week, and right know it...

My husbands 2000 model would stall while driving it. He said it made an electrical noise near the steering column. He had it to a chevy garage 3 times for the same problem. It would quit for a year and start again. They changed a sensor, and even a fuel pump which they charged $8oo for. Finally after several attemps my husband changed the ignion switch and it seemed to fix the problem. When he tore it apart he found what looked like melted wiring cover that had drained onto the wiring. When he first bought the car he a recall fixed ,some kind of pigtail in there and we wondered about that.Try this , The ignition switch:I think this might be your solution. It was fairly cheap and pretty simple to do yourself.

06 silverado blower fan won`t shut off finally killed battery

The connection at the blower resistor on these model years had problems with poor connections.
The increased resistance on the terminals caused them to heat up and burn. Some would go open circuit and not work at all and some would short to ground and run all the time, like yours.
As you have already discovered, you will need to replace the pieces.

Does the altura 68 in turn slower than other fans? I was thinking that there was a problem at first, however the air flow seems better than smaller fans...

yes some fans turn slower. usually the larger ones have slower speeds. If you are happy with the speed you have then just enjoy it.

Just curious about one thing. Do u have the fan on a dimmer switch?

My husband had a fall today and broke his foot and he had the camera in his hand. It now shows system error S0042 and the lens will not close. Can you help? Many thanks Angela

Okay, the same happened to my camera. The lens stayed open and showed system error on a blue screen when I tried to close it. I checked if this had happened to others and found that it had, and took note of their comments.

I tried first of all pushing the lens back in whilst trying to close the door: seems to work for some but not for me.

I then tried pulling the lens out even further in case it hadn't come out all the way in the first place: didn't work either.

I tried slapping it on the palm of my hand three times quite hard and trying again to close the lens door, then repeating this a few times: seems to work for some, but again not for me.

Finally what did work: I rocked the lens back and forth gently a few times which suddenly brought it back to life - it sprang open a fraction, made the 'taadaa' noise to show it was ready and was delightfully back to normal.

Seems the lens had been stuck somehow and needed a bit of gentle persuasion to return to its normal positon. It may be the combination of all the above that finally did the trick, or just the end one. I will never know. I do know that I love this little gizmo and that it has given me five years of brilliant service. There are cheaper and better spec' camers around now, but I wouldn't trade it for any of them, so its really lovely to have it back up and running.

Hope this works for you and anyone else it may happen to.

Les.
ps: Angela, hope your husband's foot has got better by now. Shame you can't do the same with limbs when they go wrong!
