hey, give me 24 hours, I just put all the stuff in the fridge, cause once I blow dry the freezer, and defrost it for hour and half, it works for about 2 weeks. I am gonna have to get some men over here and help me since I am a female, and am learning all this stuff on my own. Thank you and I will be back within the 24 hour period and give you update..

If you need to defrost the refrigerator, means the the defrost circuit has stopped working. There is a evaporator coil in the freezer. It's job it to cool the freezer compartment and indirectly cool the refrigerator by using a fan to blow cold air into the refrigerator.

Since the evaporator coil temperture is typically below freezing, frost develops on the coil. To remove the frost, the refrigerator has a defrost timer or module that shuts down the compressor periodically and turns on heating element through a defrost thermostat. This heating element is physically mounted to the coil and heat it up to about 50 F when the thermostat turns off the heater.

Typical problems with the defrost are the heating element breaks, the defrost timer fails to advance, and the defrost thermostat does not close.

I would check the heating element first. To get access to the coil/element, you will need to empty the lower portion of the freezer. In the lower back of the freezer compartment is the panel that covers the coil. Take the panel off, and you should be able to see the coil. Use a hair dryer to melt the ice. The heating element will either look like a piece of black wire or like al long glass tube. Use a meter and attach it to the heating element contacts to determine if it has opened. If it has then replacing it should solve your problem, If it is good, then the problem lies either with the defrost timer or the thermostat. If you still have questions, leave me a comment and I will try to clarify things for you. Hope this helps you.

Sorry, I forgot that your refrigerator is a side by side. I have a link to a GE side by side service manual http://appliancejunk.com/ge/refrigerator...

You can perform a diagnostic without removing anything from the refrigerator. If you go to page 33 it discribes how to go into diagnostic mode. Once you are there then you can set the the defrost mode by setting the freezer display to 1 and refrigerator display to 4. page 35. The compressor should shut off and the heater should turn on. You should be able to verify that the heater is turning on by watching water drip into the pan below the refrigerator.

If it not working check the module wiring to the defrost heater with a meter. This is discribed on page 52. The module is mounted on the back side of the refrigerator. If this is helpful to you, please rate this answer. If you need more info, leave me a comment. Thanks.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Freezer not working but fridge is

You said,
I opened my freezer today and everything was defrosting. The fridge is working fine. I thought maybe did not shut properly so made sure it was closed and 8 hours later it is still not freezing. The fan is working but the air is refrigerator. HELP!!!

1.Try unplugging the fridge for 5 minutes and then restarting it! This may reset the system!
2.If the freezer is so full that the rear vents are blocked then this may happen. Because the fridge and the freezer share the air!
3. If not then the freezer and the fridge have different controls and the freezer control if faulty!

then you need service. ur site has good service companies in your are for our customers!
Bless You,
please give me a good rating before you sign off!
thank you

It sounds like your defrost cycle has stopped working. unplug your fridge for 24 hours and let it defrost. plug it back after 24 hour and if it starts to cool in the fridge part at about 40 degrees F. you will have to replace one of three parts the Defrost Timer, Defrost Themo or Defrost Element. I hope this helps you.

Sounds like you have a defrost problem. The timer could be playing up and taking too long to defrost, which causes the evaporator to ice up, hence no cold air to the fridge and the water line freezes up, hence no water dispensed. When the timer does eventually defrost the fridge then everything returns to normal. This could also be caused by a faulty defrost terminator or bad connection on the defrost element.
