It might be grease from the bearings due to a failed seal.

SOURCE: hotpoint aquarius washing machine water

Hi, Ok first things first where is your machines waste pipe connected? If it connected to the sink trap check there first by undoing it and check that there is nothing inside stopping it from letting the water out..?
If this is clear then have you lost anything? Sock? ETC....? Can you hear the pump? And is the water draining but not spinning?
If you cannot hear the pump running then it will more that likely be the pump as they are a magnetic pump which fail quite alot. If the pump is running then it is going to be something you have lost which will be located in the sump hose underneath the machine whic comes from the tub to the pump. Take it off and check and clean as nesscerary. Or last but not least it could be the fact it is doing everything but not spinning ( no drum action )? Check the motor carbon brushes if they are low then this will cause the problem or the motor has failed!....
Good luck and let me know ho you get on??

SOURCE: stale water smell

This is a common problem. There is a build up of grime in the hidden crevices of the machine. To help resolve this problem, put a cup and a half of good dishwashing power in the machine and then place it on HOT full capacity. Then place fill the fabric softener with bleach. Run the unit half of the wash cycle and then stop it and allow it to soak for 15 minutes. Then allow it to finish the cycle. Repeat this process once a week for 3 weeks. Also you may want to stop using fabric softener if you are using it. The softener acts like a surfactant and adheres to the upper crevices of the machine. After a while bacteria starts to build. The bacteria varies in composition; but a very little known bacteria thrive in these humid areas and gives off the odor you described. The bacteria is commonly known as SRB’s. Here is some more information on this subject. http://www.nesc.wvu.edu/ndwc/articles/QandA/OTsp00_Q_A.pdf Best o Luck :?) DRRXR

SOURCE: How do I change the door boot seal on a Hotpoint Aquarius WMA31N?

Ok - I will answer my own problem seeing as though I have now fitted it!
1. remove door (2 screws)
2. There is a tensioned wire loop holding the front part of the boot seal in position. - prize off the plastic cap at the 11 o'clock position, all will become clear and you will be able to remove the wire loop.
3. Remove top of washing machine (2 allen screws behind caps at the front.
4. Remove soap dispenser draw and any screws holding the front control panel and top of the door.
5. Remove bottom front plinth (just pull it off) underneath are a couple of screws holding the front panel part of the machine, remove these.
6. Remove front of machine giving you access to the steel band which locks the other end of the boot seal in position. Slacken this band right back using a nut-spinner screwdriver. Pull off the old boot and clean the lip ready for fitting of the new boot.
7. Fit new boot seal using a squirt of washing up liquid as lubricant if needed (mine didn't) to reseat the seal.
8. Refit and tension steel band.
9. Re-assemble front panel, ease boot back into front lip position then refit wire loop using a suitable pair of pliers/molegrips to crimp the retaining plastic cap back in situ.

SOURCE: Terrible smell coming from our washing machine

remove bottom cover at back of machine, loosen large jubilee clip on hose between drum and pump. pull hose down and off, take out strainer basket and pull top off, clean top, ball and basket by running under tap. clean out hose with an old rag. reassemble strainer and put back into hose, in the correct position. fix hose back on to drum and tighten clip. run machine on a hot wash and all should be fine.

My hotpoint aquarius will not spin

If the inlet cycle proceeds and then activated the wash after the water level is detected then the program cycle is intact. However if the second spin does not start, you need to check if there is voltage to the motor at this time , if not the control panel memory to the processor can be corrupt or the IC damaged.

Your pipe to the water pump exit is probably blocked with bits of old fluff or missing sock, i found that the clothes had slimy bits on mine, i tilted it up and removed the rubber water exit pipe from under neath, cleaned out all the rubbish and works a treat now.
