Question about Sport & Outdoor - Others

3 year old Toro Z4200 time cutter Z, 19 HP Kohler, engine runs great, new battery, new solenoid, with the seat sensor connected or by-passed, STILL WONT start off the key switch. Clicks at the kill relay. Would the kill relay be the problem? Whats confusing is, both the green and blue posts on the solenoid have 14.01 volts when you turn the key to 'start' position. Did the same thing with the old solenoid, which is probably still good. I replaced it to eliminate that variable. It also 'clicks' at the fuel switch at the carburetor bowl, but that is only 1 lead (I assume a hot lead) so Im thinking that CANT be it. Using the old hillybilly method, jumping across the 2 top posts on the solenoid, with the key in on position, it will start right up, run, drive and mow just fine. So my best guess is this 'KILL RELAY' must be bad? Any help would be appreciated, thank you !

These things are pre requisites for engine cranking: PTO/Blades are off/button pushed down, the steering arms are out/parked position, and you are in the seat. I think. Definitely the blades have to off.

My tractor is doing the exact same thing now. Did you ever get this problem figured out? I figure it to be a grounding problem, a short, or this "kill relay" problem.

SOURCE: after use my toro snow

If new call your supplier?

When finished using, turn off the fuel line, there should be a cut off tap?

Be careful you don't get cover in fuel. Play safe!

If there is a leak, most likely a failed seal or loose screw? If attempting yourself, make sure itis turned off and cold, usual safety, no naked flames/cigs/pipes/cigars.matches/ or you could be a Flaming Torch".
Otherwiswise leave it to the suppliers.

Have a 3 year old 42'' Toro Zero Turn never had a problem. Was cutting grass and it died. Will not start, no fire and does not seem as if it is getting fuel ? Does it have a fuel pump or could it be...

That unit has a fuel solenoid that is attached to the carburetor bowl. Over time this solenoid can act up at odd times. You can take off the air filter cover and manually choke the unit and see if it will start up again. I would take it in to your nearest TORO dealer. On the website it has a dealer locator to find the closest one to your zip code.

Hi Mark , firstly do a full service on it ( all fluids ( engine oil /transmission fluid ) , drain and refill the gas tank with fresh gas , remove and clean/drainout the carb/s bowl . Recharge the battery
Most rideons have an operator prescence switch built into or under the seat therefore find the lockout for this or sit on it whilst starting it .
Hope this helps .

Toro TimeCutter z4200 will not start

First check to see if there is a fuel shutoff under the tank. On some models there is a fuel filter screen inside the tank where the fuel line connects to the tank. If niether of these work, R&R the carb.
