  • Flip over your pocket watch. Remove the back of your watch. The back of watches are either screwed on by four small Phillips head screws (unscrew them) or the watch has a press inserted back (slide a thin knife blade under the edge of the back of the watch and pry it off).
  • Remove the circular watch battery out of the back of the watch.
  • Take the battery to any department store or watch store and purchase a new replacement battery.
  • Insert the new battery into the back of the watch.
  • Screw on or push on the back of the watch. Set the watch to the correct time.

Susan, just use a very thin blade flat edge screw driver to pry the back case off the watch.I just did a Majestron pocket watch, and my battery holder had a clip with a screw holding it into place Once you get your back cover off, look for the battery. The battery will have a 3 digit identifier. For example mine was 395. Wal-mart ,Target, and most retailers with a jewelry department carries batteries. Most batteries go negative down, but check your manual to be safe. Check to see if the second hand is moving, if so align the back cover up, and press it closed, evenly around the edge. If the second hand is not working as in my pocket watch, you may then need to take it to a repair shop.

This particular pocket watch does not have a generic case back, or case back at all for that matter. Generic watch opening procedures will not work for it. I have one in my shop now, I will post what I figure out!

Do new James Michael pocket watches come with a battery?

Yes, if it is of the battery type

    Movement Type
The movement, or inner workings, of a watch are what make up the main timekeeping mechanism. This mechanism measures the passage of time and displays the current time and other information including date, day and month. These movements can be entirely mechanical, entirely electronic or a combination of the two.
Mechanical movements, such as hand wound or automatic watches require winding in order to run. An automatic watch uses the force of gravity to constantly wind itself. Automatic watches have a greater consistency of power and therefore can be more accurate.
An electronic watch employs the use of a tiny quartz crystal that vibrates in the presence of electricity. This type of watch is powered by a battery and their time is regulated by the tiny quartz crystal. This is why most electronic watches are also called quartz watches. Solar powered watches convert energy from light into electricity which is then stored in a rechargeable battery. These watches do not need to have the battery replaced as long as they are regularly exposed to a fairly strong light source.
Kinetic powered watches use a combination of mechanical and electronic elements. Usually a weight rotates with the motion of the wearer?s arm which turns a generator to supply power. It is similar to an automatic watch except that electrical power is generated by the mechanical motion.

Is it possible to convert a wind-up watch to battery(quartz ?) operation ? Thanks.

Unfortunately no, the only option is to remove the mechanical works and replace it with a quartz circuitry.

I have a Harley Davidson pocket watch, battery operated, but it loses approx. 8 min per day. Is there an adjustment ? I just replaced battery.

No unfortunately there is not, the problem is in the timing module where the quartz crystal is. The only option is to have it checked out to see if anything can be done.

Hi, I found on a street market a MIYOTA T241 watch in original package, also a plastic shield on the glass. Now the problem: May be the liquid of the battery destroyed any power supply wires or contacts. I...

mcdevito75 here, Once the battery leaks it destroys the quartz mechanism. Even if you find a replacement quartz, you"d need special Jewelers tools to remove and replace the quartz, even with that you could destroy the new quartz if you can find one. Best Bet, see a small watch repair shop in your area for a quartz replacement approx. $75.00

2003 deer pocket watch Al Agnew is it wind up or Battery

Often with battery powered watches the word "Quartz" will be written on the dial. In the abscent of that you can look at the mechanism inside (typically by removing the case back).

Alternately (this may not be an absolute confirmation) with the winder in neutral position i.e. pressed all the way in, turn the crown (winding button) and if it spins freely it's probably quartz. Because unless it's broken most mechanical watches click as the watch is
wound up (except some automatics which cant be crown wound).

Plus if it's working and left unworn for a few days yet continues to run it's probably quartz.
    Please rate this solution.

How do I change the date on a Colibri Pocket Watch?

Usually all quartz watches are supplied with calendar setting mechanism and it is very simple-
try to pull out crown and you will notice that there are two clicks,so, when the crown is pulled out to the first click, the date can be adjusted by the turn of the crown. When crown is pulled further out (second click)- the watch is in hand setting position and you can adjust time.
    Did it help?
