Question about Maytag HAV2557 Top Load Washer

Washer goes off balance so easily, no matter the size of the load, from towels to shirts. We checked the washing machine itself is level. It's so frustrating to have a small to medium load cause the basket to knock it off balance and have banging and or a machine walking across the room.

The tub is out of alignment. The suspension springs are weak and must be tight, the tub must not shake,if so the dampers are faulty.
This suspension must be so rigid that it must not shake around freely . check the pulley arangement , the bearings at the bottom spindle, if out of balance. If there is any anomalies in this ddrive section it must be observed and checked.
A careful analysis is most important to having a first hand information.

I replaced all balance springs. Still don't balance?

The washer is dancing across the room? Are the transit brackets removed? One on the motor, one across the top. Never known springs that needed replacing. With the top of the drum should move left and right a lot and backwards and forwards a little.

The washer must be level left to right and back to front. All four feet must be adjusted to sit evenly under the same pressure.

Bulky items or single large items will cause uneven balance. A normal load of socks, underwear, shirts, and a coupe of dish towels should keep balance as a test.

My washer bangs and goes off balance in the spin cycle. It has been leveled and is not off balance.

Without knowing the type of washing machine that you are using I can tell you generally that:
First make sure that the washer is level. There should be leveling legs on the machine that you can screw or unscrew to level it.
And that there are several causes of this problem.

1. Load is too large for the machine. Be sure not to stuff the washer full. The items should have room to move around.
2. Items being washed are not of similar weight so that they unbalance easily (Wash jeans with jeans/knits with knits/towels with towels)
3. Items are poorly loaded (in a top loader). Distribute the items well.
4. Front loading washers on platforms with drawers, etc. are very prone to this problem. We finally took our off the drawer/ platforms and the problem went away. After a couple of service calls that helped not at all.
5. Front loaders sometimes have this problem if they are installed on a "soft floor" such as Laminate flooring. You can help this by placing a thick rubber-backed rug or a piece of plywood underneath your machine.

These are the solutions that I have learned from my own experience. I hope that these ideas help you.

Anytime this machine goes into a spin cycle it is grossly out of balance. we have tried adjusting the load; reducing the size of the load; we have gone to just one towel in the washer and still out of...

Are the locking nuts tight on all 4 legs? If not, tighten all locking nuts after leveling machine. Also, place a glass of water about 18" in front of machine while spinning and see if water moves. If it does, you may have flooring issues.

Spin cycle tub becomes unbalance

When the drum gets unbalanced more often then not, there's a few things to check:
1. Check to make sure your machine is level. Check level from side to side and also front to back. The machine has leveling feet to adjust. Make sure they are all in firm contact with the floor when leveled.
2. Wash items that are alike in material. In other words, wash towels with towels, shirts with shirts, etc. If you wash a load of shirts with a towel, it will have a tendency to get unbalanced quickly.
3. Avoid over-stuffing the machine and washing under sized loads. Both of these scenarios will cause a tendency to go out of balance on the spin.
This will solve 75-80% of unbalance issues. Let me know how it goes..

My Maytag goes out of balance and bangs loudly

This is usually due to the floor not being perfectly level, and as a consequence the washing machine not standing firmly on all 4 supports.
There should be at least 2 adjustable feet under the machine, try to make it stand as level as possible, with uniform load on all four.
If you have a bubble level it may help you establish, if there's an obvious slope on your floor and adjust the machine so that it's well levelled.
Good luck!

Washer constantly goes out of balance

1 option is to wind the back feet out so the washer drum will sit more to the front so as it less likly to hit the OOB switch, other thing is that the OOB switch might have corrosion on the inside of it and in this case if it gets moisture inside it during a wash it is more likely to go OOB, so try replacing it this should fix issue, if not replace Motor Control Unit. :)

Don't know if you've done it, but put a level on the machine itself and make sure it is level. Adjust it front, back and side to side. This may cure your "walking problem".
