Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I purchased a Eee PC while we were in Thailand 2 months ago and now we are back in Canada. Right from the begining the keyboard seemed stif and the keys particularily on the right side the "e" "s" "a" and "c" have to be pushed hard and with a fast typist missed altogether. This also seems to be an intermittant problem with some days like now appears to be ok! My search of the knowledge base suggested i may have to download an update of the bios. I can not figure out how to do this as it is the model and serial numbers requested bares no resemblance to any numbers on this machine, The Question is:is the bios the problem and how do i go about updating the right one. Also is it true that the warranty is only good for the country it was purchased from and i have no warranty on this here in Canada? thanks, Bill

totally inappropriate comment. We needed a laptop for our work in Thailand and we work in that area regularily. Comments like this do not enacourage people to use these forums. This was my first time go on a forum and will probably be my last.

Try to find a local representative, maybe for the right price it can be fixed, usually this kind of problems are not related to bios.

I do not want to step on your toes but next time buy at local stores, at least you can get back to the store with a taxi.

I do not know why you got so furious with what I wrote.

Upgrading bios is a very dangerous thing to do without knowledge, and even more if the model is not the same, doing so without model match will make your computer unable to work again anymore unless you replace the mainboard, so you got the BEST advice you can get, "take it to a local representative", more over I still do not think that the problem is BIOS related, Bios is the mainboard software that recognizes the hardware installed in the computer but you write that "the problem comes and goes" , that cannot happend with bios software.

The first thing a person do when buying abroad is to check with the dealer for global support and you didn't so dont blame others that try to help and deal with it in a mature manner!.

It is odd that you write that you need the computer for work in Thailand and you regularly there, but you are already two months with the computer in Canada, wait for the next trip and take it to local (thailand) dealer for repair (the computer has warranty, don't it, or you didn't check that also?).

either the keyboard is faulty and should be replaced or perhaps the region settings and/or input layout are set wrong ? it's worth first trying another keyboard though, good luck!

Tower turns on, but not the monitor or the keyboard

There seems to be a problem with the motherboard. You need to get your hardware checked.
Alternatively, there is a solution that worked every time for me.

Disconnect The A/C Cord or Charger from the laptop,
Remove the battery,
Hold the Power Button for 45 seconds.

Put everything back together and then try!

Tips : Use a cooling pad or a hard surface to keep your laptop on. Sometimes this problem occurs due to improper ventilation & overheat problems.

Good luck !

When i turn my desktop on, i can hear it running but the blue lights do not turn on and neither do the mouse or keyboard. The monitor says no signal and goes to sleep. I've tried unplugging and...

Go through my guide entitled My Computer is not turning on!!! Is it dead!!! No POST!!!

However since the computer was only purchased a month ago I would say that it is still under warranty. Claim warranty support.

Take care!

How do you get the letter p on the keyboard on eee pc

If all the letters on the keyboard work except one, then you have two choices:
1) Take the keyboard apart and clean it.
2) Buy a new keyboard.

C1641 intermittent beeps and won't start up

Is is possible that the RAM you put in was not sited properly. Just check it to see if it is right. You might need to troubleshoot by removing one peripheral at a time. Try removing the keyboard, and turn it on and see what happen. If same, mouse, network card, etc until you find the issue.

We have a Gateway Computer that was purchased about 9 months ago. The letters on our new Keyboard are wearing off so much that the I is gone and others are showing great wear. We are retired so it is not...

Key's can be individually purchased, but after replacing a couple of keys it can get expensive.
Your best option would just to buy a new keyboard directly from Gateway, or from a place like BestBuy.
Keyboards where keyboards are as cheap as $20.
