Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I purchased a Eee PC while we were in Thailand 2 months ago and now we are back in Canada. Right from the begining the keyboard seemed stif and the keys particularily on the right side the "e" "s" "a" and "c" have to be pushed hard and with a fast typist missed altogether. This also seems to be an intermittant problem with some days like now appears to be ok! My search of the knowledge base suggested i may have to download an update of the bios. I can not figure out how to do this as it is the model and serial numbers requested bares no resemblance to any numbers on this machine, The Question is:is the bios the problem and how do i go about updating the right one. Also is it true that the warranty is only good for the country it was purchased from and i have no warranty on this here in Canada? thanks, Bill

Try to find a local representative, maybe for the right price it can be fixed, usually this kind of problems are not related to bios.

I do not want to step on your toes but next time buy at local stores, at least you can get back to the store with a taxi.

I do not know why you got so furious with what I wrote.

Upgrading bios is a very dangerous thing to do without knowledge, and even more if the model is not the same, doing so without model match will make your computer unable to work again anymore unless you replace the mainboard, so you got the BEST advice you can get, "take it to a local representative", more over I still do not think that the problem is BIOS related, Bios is the mainboard software that recognizes the hardware installed in the computer but you write that "the problem comes and goes" , that cannot happend with bios software.

The first thing a person do when buying abroad is to check with the dealer for global support and you didn't so dont blame others that try to help and deal with it in a mature manner!.

It is odd that you write that you need the computer for work in Thailand and you regularly there, but you are already two months with the computer in Canada, wait for the next trip and take it to local (thailand) dealer for repair (the computer has warranty, don't it, or you didn't check that also?).

The keyboard seems to be locked and the number lock light is on. No buttons seem to work including the function keys - is there anyway to unlock the keyboard or could this be a faulty machine - purchased...

Sounds like the keyboard is bad ,If you bought only a month ago then the warranty should cover it you did not specify what the make and model it is but you can go to the website and get an RMA to send it in for repair
If I can be of further assistance please let me know

ASUS Eee PC 1000H DIY 1000HE chiclet keyboard upgrade

ASUS have been gradually transitioning to chiclet-style keyboards on their Eee PC netbooks, with the latest model to get the new style being the Eee PC 1000HA. If you're an existing owner looking longingly at the new layout, meanwhile, and specifically have an ASUS Eee PC 1000H, you can fudge your own update with the keyboard from the Eee PC 1000HE.

It's not just an aesthetic upgrade, either. ASUS bizarrely played around with the keyboard layout on the 1000H, one of the most obvious changes being the right-hand shift key getting nudged across by the up arrow. The 1000HE keyboard, however, has a more standard layout.

There's a little modification required before the keyboard panel slots in - basically snipping off a few metal tabs - but it looks relatively easy from forum member Barovelli's photos (some of which are reproduced here). Not all users are reporting 100-percent key success, however, so don't throw away your old 'board.

The replacement 1000HE keyboard is priced at $15 through ASUS; however, it's currently listed as out of stock.

Asus vh242h lcd no sreen picture (no connection) purches 28/05/2010 at staples store no.86 toronto on canada

> purchased 28/05/2010

That is 4 months and 2 days ago, which implies that any "one-year" warranty will still be in effect. Take it back to STAPLES, and they will repair/replace it, at no cost to you.

My Asus Eee netbook keyboard seems to "cut and insert" when I am writing sentences. I will start writing and all of a sudden I will notice that it will start typing from wherever the cursor was to begin...

My eee netbook will do that too. it seems that parts of my thumbs or palms tend to hit the touchpad at times clicking the cursor on different parts of the page? could this be happening to you? try disabling the touchpad with the little silver button on the left hand side of the keyboard at the top. If this does not help, you may need to replace the keyboard. It can be ordered from the asus online store.

Hope this helps you!

ASUS Eee PC 90 XP. Wont boot only displays vetical lines.

Did you try a external monitor to see is it works mine is doing the same think so I hooked up a external monitor and the computer is booting correctly i had to hit fcn and f5 for monitor to display. I think it might be a loose connection in the laptop.
