That probably happened because something hit the TV and broke the line for pictures to get through, or because a wire in you TV is bad and doesn't wanna work. This happened to my TV every few days. What I did is give it a few whacks every now and then on top of it and the vision came back, but don't try that if you think your TV is fragile. Yes I know its sounds stereotypical but it actually sometimes works.
Hi,you will need a soldering iron and a voltage needle so you can test the Ic components on the main board. you will need to test the transistors as well. once you find the bad parts, you will have to order them and remove the bad parts and replace them with the ordered parts by using the iron and solder. this issue will be located on the input side of the main board. you should notice it by the discolorations on the board. I repaired an RCA same model with a very similar symptom. I found bad connections on the printed circuit board at L411 and L 412 (coils) in the horizontal drive circuit. Give the set a good Fonzie ( Happy Days) smack on the side and see if it comes on. LOL. Bad connections are common with that model. It is probably worth fixing and no, lightning didnt do it.
