Western Digital 120GB Hard Drive not Connecting

While I work a note posted that their had been a surge in power to the HD and was disconnected. When I tried to hook it up the PC at work and at home would not recognize it, not even giving it a chance to load. The Green light comes on and you can hear the HD start up. Any assitance would greatly be appreciated.

My Maxtor One Touch 1.5 tb turbo at first was not recognized by Apple, even though it was the hard drive I had been using for the last five months. So I paid 100 dollars for Disk Warrior, got all the files back up on the disk, and fixed. Then the computer froze up again (it does that a lot) and when I rebooted, the computer couldn't even tell I had anything plugged into the computer. Uh-oh?

Change the hd from external case. . the chip in the case is bad.. or the hd.
hd can be taken out.. open it if its out of warranty to test it directly to pc cable inside.

Examine the interface specifications for the what the HD is connected to. Most 120 MD SSD's are backwards compatible with SATA-150. Usually the specification with say SATA-II (3MB transfer speed) or SATA-III (6MB transfer speed). A SATA-III SSD will work on a SATA-II connecction.

I bought a "My DVR Expander" to use with my DirecTV HD DVR. Does Western Digital make this expander in anything larger than 1TB? If so, where can I buy one?

Note that your DVR will treat this as "extra" storage, i.e., supplemental to its "internal" storage.

A 1 terabyte hard drive allows you to record:
  • Up to an additional 600 hours of Digital TV
  • Up to an additional 120 hours of High Definition TV
Since the largest EIDE/PATA disk-drive is 0.5 TB, the disk-drive inside the Expander must be a SATA disk-drive.

So, disassemble the unit, disconnect the SATA disk-drive, and pay about $300 to buy a "2000Gb Western Digital Caviar RE4 Raid Edition 7200RPM 64 Mb Cache 3.5 7200RPM 64 MB Cache SATA Internal HD 3 Yr Warranty WD2003FYYS".

Connect the disk-drive to its interface.
Close-up the case.
Connect your "custom" PVR expander to your DVR,
and see if your DVR will recognize the 2TB of disk-storage.

WD HD Media player damaged my hard drive??

Hi Dear! This problem could be solved through a software. You should use Western Digital Disk Manager, your WD hard disk will work properly after using that your WD hard disk pass all test of the software. When it will pass all test it will work properly and in other condition if it will not pass then you should try again so that the software will fix the error and it will made workable.
Thank You

My usb ports are limited to 500mA each one and the WD external HD needs at least 1000mA. How can I solve that?

You might need to install a new USB card, one with 1000 mA, to provide the power necesary for your WD external drive. Check the WD manual to see whether there is a way to use two USB ports when jumpering them to see if you can provide the power yourself.
Also check the WD web site.

I would suggest the external casing of the harddisk that contains its power supply is busted, so you need to change the casing or remive the harddisk from the casing and connect in inside

wiggle the cable connected to the drive gently up and down and side to side

I have the same problem with one of my drives, by doing the above it works. I think the connector inside "the conatcts" don't make good contact with the cable

thanks for rating
